Kingsley Akunda, a 43-year-old motorcycle rider from Ondo State, appeared before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday for alleged theft of a phone and cash.
Akunda, whose address was omitted, is accused of felony theft, burglary, and two other offences on three counts.
The defendant and a second person who is still at large committed the crimes on November 17, 2022, according to the prosecutor, ASP Zedekiah Orogbemi.
Orogbemi claimed that the defendant broke into the home at No. 22, Arikawe St., Okitipupa, in the Okitipupa Magisterial District, at around 12.30 a.m.
He said that the defendant and others still at large, burgled the house of one Samuel Akinrodoye, and stole one Itel M15 android phone valued at N85,000 and N30,000 cash, totalling N115, 000.
According to the prosecutor, the offences are contrary to the provisions of the Criminal Code, Law of Ondo State, 2006.
Akunda, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Chris Ojuola, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100, 000 and two sureties in like sum.
He said that the sureties, who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, must be on Grade Level 15 in the state civil service.
Ojuola ordered that the sureties must present evidences of two years’ tax payment to the Ondo State Government.
He adjourned the case until Feb. 7 for further hearing. (NAN)
