AMILOADED MEDIA HUB NEWS UPDATE
A group, The Osun Masterminds, has urged the governor-elect of Osun State, Sen. Ademola Adeleke, to not allow “bitterness” around him such that he will attempt to discontinue the good legacies of his predecessor, Gboyega Oyetola, when swears in as the governor of the state on Sunday. AMILOADED reports.
The Executive Director of The Osun Masterminds, Dr. Wasiu Oyedokun-Alli, gave the advice at a press conference he addressed in Osogbo, Osun State on Monday.
The group said Adeleke must continue policies of Oyetola’s government that are pro-people and only seek to deliver optimal results with them, saying government “is a continuum and thus, policies must be sustained for the greater good”.
It said Adeleke will inherit a government that has run on frugality and prudence over the last four years, saying this has been particularly important because the state needed such austerity measures to ensure its survival and long term fiscal sustainability.
The group urged the governor-elect to continue the practice of intentional prudence, block all financial leakages and ensure optimal utilisation of the state’s resources..
The Osun Masterminds added that Adeleke must also find creative ways to rapidly boost Osun State’s revenue through exploitation of the state’s agriculture and tourism potentials.
The group, however, commended Governor Oyetola for his “frugal management” of the state’s scarce resources to ensure full payment of salaries, settlement of a sizeable amount of pension arrears, implement lots of developmental policies.
It said: “Sen. Ademola Adeleke is inheriting a government that has run on frugality and prudence over the last four years. This has been particularly important because the State needed such austerity measures to ensure its survival and long term fiscal sustainability. We first expect him to continue this practice of intentional prudence, block all financial leakages and ensure optimal utilization of the State’s resources.
“After ensuring fiscal discipline, the incoming Governor must also find creative ways to rapidly boost the State’s revenue through exploitation of the State’s almost limitless Agriculture and Tourism potentials. He must also exploit the State’s strategic geographical location in relation with other States in the South-West, to develop the State’s trade potentials.
“We understand that expectations are very high, but the incoming Governor must ensure that he manages expectations with existing realities, to achieve results that are both good for the State’s survival and necessary for the restoration of public trust in government. He must dialogue with people every step of the way and ensure the openness of his government to the people it will serve.
It also must be stated that the incoming Governor must seek to surround himself with only people who have proven records of professional accomplishments and are willing to truly serve the State. This is not a time to spend State’s resources on “job for the boys” as Osun presently requires the touch of seasoned administrators who can take the State from here to the point of bliss it should be.
“It also must be stated that the incoming Governor must not allow bitterness around him such that he will attempt to discontinue the good legacies of his predecessor. He must continue policies of the outgoing government that are pro-people and only seek to deliver optimal results with them. Government is a continuum and thus, policies must be sustained for the greater good.
“We also advise the incoming Governor to ensure that he builds a smooth working relationship with the APC-dominated State House of Assembly that he will inherit. The events that happen in some States where Governors mess with the independence of the State Assembly to force through their own leadership must not be allowed in Osun. The incoming Governor must coexist peacefully with the State Assembly to achieve good results.”
Speaking on the swearing-in slated for Sunday, The Osun Masterminds said: “It has come to our notice that certain antisocial elements are already threatening to foment trouble once the new government comes on board.
“We understand the euphoria of victory and how it may lead to gloating, boasts and wild celebration. However, we believe that celebration must not get to the point of committing crimes or violating the rights and privileges of other citizens of our dear State. Winners can jubilate and make merry to their hearts’ fill, but must not be seen attacking or intimidating anyone who does not belong to their party.
“Attacks in this regard will include physical injury, cyberbullying, threats to life, threats to business and survival and so on. The rights of every citizen of the State is guaranteed under our laws and must be allowed to enjoy such.
“The incoming Governor will not be Governor of his party members only, but will require the cooperation of all relevant citizens to succeed. His supporters must therefore ensure that no terror is unleashed on anyone before, during and after the swearing-in ceremony.
“We also call on the outgoing government of Alh. Isiaka Gboyega Oyetola to ensure that it works effectively with the incoming Governor and his team, to ensure seamless transition, in the interest of the State and her people. Osun must be our collective interest at this period and we must all put her development first.”
The group, while speaking on the 2023 general elections, urged stakeholders to allow peaceful conduct of the elections “so that the will of the people may come to pass”.
It further enjoined the people of Osun State to “set petty sentiments aside and vote only for men and women who have the required mental and professional qualities to deliver dividends of democracy to their respective communities.”
“This election is about the survival of the Nigerian State and we must ensure that we do only that which can contribute to that survival,” it added.
