The Ejigbo Local Government Area Students’ Association (ELGASA) has marked the end of year 2022 administration, AMILOADED reports.
The event held with the theme, ‘ELGASA Rebirth’, commenced on Monday, November 14, 2022, in Ejogbo, Osun State.
The grand finale was held in honour of the OGIYAN OF EJIGBO KINGDOM, Oba Omowonuola Oyeyode Oyesosin II.
The ELGASA week, through it’s National Body during the administration of the ELGASA President, Comrade Abdfatai Abass, a 300 level student of Linguistics and Nigerian Languages, University of Ilorin, featured several activities.
Abass said the ELGASA event was a week long and featured several activities including rally and an excursion to Badagry. The day also featured prize giving and awards of honour to some dignitaries.
In an interview, Abass was quoted to have said he is one of the best Presidents ELGASA ever produced having brought back ELGASA as known in the past.
Mr Olayide Raji, the first speaker and a former President of ELGASA IN 1996, speaking on the topic, ‘ELGASA YESTERDAY, TODAY AND TOMORROW’ said ELGASA was founded in the year 1978 through the efforts of leaders like late Adewale Adesanya, Prince Tunde Ajiboye and ny others at the University of Ife.
“The founding of ELGASA was like a revolution as the founding of the association was spurred by the relegation of Ejigbo Students politically and otherwise. Therefore, our fathers sought a change in the status quo so that Ejigbo Local Government could get he representation it deserved. The core agenda of ELGASA at the time was the education of young indigenes at all cost,” he added.
Comrade Rasheed Afeez Opeyemi, who gave a breakdown of the ELGASA week explained that Monday, Day 1 was the health day which was a health programme for Senior Secondary School Students tagged “the effect of unwanted pregnancy among teens a the dangers of drug abuse”.
“Day 2 – the clearing of some specified dirty places in Ejigbo. Day 3 – Novelty March. Day 4 -excursion to Badagry. Day 5 -prayer service at the Mosque. Day 6 -official grand finale and awards presentation. Day 7- thanksgiving service at the church.
“Distinguished personalities were awarded at the event and prizes were given to excellent Students in a competition.”
Azeez Fawaz expressed joy at being victorious in the competition and for the prize he received.
“I am glad to be awarded best student in this competition. It would encourage my parents to continuously pay my school fees and support me.”
