The Osun State Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, Barr. Olubukola Olaboopo, on Sunday, commenced a grassroots campaign for the re-election of Governor Gboyega Oyetola in the Okuku area of Odo-Otin local government on ahead of the July 16 gubernatorial election in the state, AMILOADED reports.
Olaboopo was accompanied by members of the Apex council of IBO women and IBO women in Ifelodun, Boripe and Odo-Otin Federal Constituency, Osun State.
The campaign began at Ward 4 Opete where the people of Opete, Reke, Ayo, Kaba in Odo-Otin local government and the Olopete of Opete who expressed joy at having the commissioner and her entourage in his community.
The monarch said Opete was for the progressives and their votes would surely show their solidarity to the Governor Gboyega Oyetola-led administration.
Speaking, Olaboopo thanked the people on behalf of Governor Oyetola and the First Lady.
She implored them to go out in their numbers to vote for the governor in the forthcoming governorship election.
She said, “Let’s get our cards ready for the July 16th elections. Governor Oyetola has rebuilt the state having put in a lot of effort. Let us therefore back him up for second term in office.”
The commissioner further educated the people on the voting process and how to successfully cast their votes.
On his part, Mr Hamzat Olayiwola said while their votes “is surely for the governor all the people needed is tight security during the election”.
The people’s excitement multiplied having received gift items from their visiting officials for the warm welcome.
The officials proceeded to ward 7 Ijabe, Alapata, Igbotele, Gaa where the Chief of the community and others welcomed IBO women with much fanfare and dance.
The commissioner said to the Chief that the governor appreciated their votes from the past and would love to have their votes again.
She implored them not to be swayed by the opposition and assured them that every of their need would be given attention by the governor.
Erelu Obada enjoined the community to go out early to the polling units with their cards.
Several grassroot stakeholders of the PDP during the campaign decamped into the APC, while they were ceremoniously given brooms, the symbol of the party, as a sign of their adoption into the party.
IBO women also visited the party’s secretariat in Odo-Otin local government where a meeting was held in preparation for the governor’s visit.
