Heritage Life Support Initiative, Osogbo Window On America Train Teachers In Osun

The Heritage Life Support Initiative (HELSI) in collaboration with the Osogbo Window on America has organised a a one day capacity training with the theme: The Teachers we need for the Education we want: The global imperative to reverse the teacher shortage AMILOADED reports.

The training was held for teachers in Osun State in commemoration of 2023 World Teachers Day.

It was also supported by Airtel and Helsi

The training took place at Osogbo Window on America building in Uniosun Teaching hospital in Osogbo on Thursday 5th of October 2023

Speaking at the event, Mr Ibitoye Samuel Olukayode who is the Director of Osogbo Window on America said, “Osogbo Window on America is a platform of activities such as the training that was held to impact their lives positively.

“Osogbo Window on America also has resources like laptops, books, etcnthat can be used free of charge by individuals.”

Mrs Bukola Ejiade, who is the Vice Principal of St Francis Grammar School in Isale Aro and the Executive director of HELSI said, “Teachers need to have knowledge a about SDG4 because a target was given by the United Nations stating that by 2030 there must be inclusive, equitable, life-long and quality education for children in primary and secondary schools in Osun state.

“We also want the teachers to produce self reliant people in the society and to also make in impact in the state. I am also encouraging Teachers should put every effort to impact knowledge in the life of the children.”

A teacher at Baptist High School Ejigbo, Mrs Adeleke-Alabi Hanifat, said, “As parents, teacher and student our culture shouldn’t be relegated because it is our identity. We should encourage ourselves to learn using our language for the benefit of our future.”

The Executive Director of Initiative for Youth Resource Centre, Mr Osazee Isonarae, said, “There is no limitation to how much a teacher can learn either in classroom or off classroom; there are several technology platform that teachers can engage themselves in to benefit themselves.”

He added that the Initiative also offers free training that can help teachers in Osun State improve more in their profession.

Oluwatoyin Akintunde is the secretary of the Board of Trustees of HELSI,a team lead of Vine Treasures Development Initiative. said, “A teacher have a role to play in achieving the united nations 2030 goal.

“This particular training is to get teachers enlightened on the knowledge of Sustainable Development Goals so that they can contribute their quota.

“Teachers should also partner with non-governmental organizations to ensure that the target listed be achieved.

“For SDG4 to be achieved need the involvement of teachers because they play a major role in achieving quality education in the globe.”

Students of osun state primary for children with special needs celebrated the teachers day through cultural display.  Practical activity was conducted by the teachers after the training.
Airtel Nigeria donated Router and wifis to the teachers for punctuality.

IEC materials depicting the 17 Sustainable Development Goals were distributed to the schools.
