AMILOADED MEDIA HUB NEWS UPDATE
A non-profit organization, Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative (BBYDI), has launched Election Violence Incidence Tracker in a bid to shun any form of violence during the 2023 general election, AMILOADED reports.
BBYDI launched the tracker in Osogbo, Osun State on Wednesday.
BBYDI which was established in 2014 and also registered under the Corporate Affairs Commission was initiated by Abideen Olasupo.
In an interview with the Initiator, he said that the app was built to mitigate election violence as they partnered with the security agencies to achieve free and fair election in Osun State.
He added that a toll free line had been provided for the people who might have issues with network in their area during the election.
Olasupo added that from January to December 2022, 300 cases of violence were reported as the primary elections aggravated the violence.
He said, “2022, in Osun State, from January to December, we had more than 400 hundred cases reported. The reason why the cases aggravated was because of the party primaries.
“You will believe with me as journalists that covered the event, that the party primaries across line was marked with irregularities.”
The chairman of Osun civil society Coalition, Comrade Waheed Lawal, commended the initiator for organising such program at the right time to curb election violence in Nigeria.
Lawal said all should be on desk as to support the initiator of the programme to achieve his aim of eliminating electoral violence.
The stakeholders who were in attendance at the event included the Commissioner of Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, National Orientation Agency, Ataoja of Osogbo, Iyaloja General, The Osun Masterminds, and National Association of Nigeria Students, amongst others.
