Otunba Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke Memorial Football Competition Begins In Osun

The Otunba Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke Memorial Football Competition, hosted by the lawmaker representing Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore and Ejigbo Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Bamidele Salam, has commenced in Osun State, AMILOADED reports.

The competition, which kicked-off at the Osogbo City Stadium in the Osun State capital, was declared open by the Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Teslim Igbalaye.

The Otunba Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke Memorial Football Competition was initiated by Hon. Salam in 2020 to “immortalize the selfless, philanthropic service” of the first civilian governor of Osun State and a former Senator, Isiaka Adeleke.

Speaking at the event, Igbalaye, who was represented by the PDP House of Representatives Candidate, Hon. Morufu Adewale Adebayo, hailed Salam for organising the event.

The SSG said the lawmaker, with the hosting of the football competition, ensured the name and legacy of the first Executive Governor of Osun State continue to speak.

He said, “Without mincing words, our gathering here today is significant – significant because the tournament has always been limited to the Federal Constituency of Ede North/Ede South/Egbedore/Ejigbo, but today we are having an extended version of the tournament, all the 30 local government in the state now have their teams participating.

“This is not only commendable, but it has further deepen the grassroot acceptance of the sporting event and it will surely unravel hundreds of talents, thereby putting the state on global map in area of football development from the grassroot.

“To the participating teams, let us abide the rules of sportsmanship and Fairplay. Remember, Olympic is primarily not about winning Gold medal but to participate actively. To the organisers of this tournament, be rest assured that the administration of Sen Nurudeen Ademola Jackson Adeleke takes very seriously grassroots sport development and everything humanly possible will be done to uplift the sport sector and give upcoming football stars a conducive environment to excel in their chosen career.”

Also speaking, the Chairman Organising Committee, Oladele Bamiji, said everything has been put in place to make the competition a colourful one, urging the participating teams to play according to the rules of the game.

On his part, the Senior Legislative Aide to Hon. Salam, Akintayo Jimoh, said lawmaker wants all youths in Osun State to benefit from the competition.
