Osun Govt Announces Activities For June 12 Democracy Day Celebration, Invites Residents

The Osun State Government and the leadership of the Civil Societies Group in the state have announced plans to hold a successful and memorable June 12 Democracy Day celebration in the state, AMILOADED reports.

This was made known in a statement signed by the Osun State Commissioner for Regional Integration and Special Duties, Engineer Olalekan Abdulrahman Badmus, on Friday.

Badmus said members of the public are invited to participate in the procession by the members of the civil societies coalition as well as the main event which will hold at noon at Aurora Events Center, Ring road, Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

The commissioner recalled that the “state government started the celebration of June 12 as Democracy day before the Federal Government declared the day as national holiday in honour of Chief MKO Abiola who lost his life in custody while struggling to reclaim his mandate as the widely acclaimed winner of June 12,1993 presidential election”.

He added, “Governor Adegboyega Oyetola-led administration will continue to deliver on its mandate to the people and in addition will continue to encourage all and sundry to promote democratic ideals aimed at deepening civil rule in Nigeria.”

According to the statement, Governor Isiaka Gboyega Oyetola is expected to be Chief Host at the annual public lecture in commemoration of the event while the first Vice Chancellor of Osun State University, Professor Sola Akinrinade is invited as Guest speaker .

Former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Chief Adegboyega Awomolo SAN is chairman. The Ogiyan Of Ejigbo ,Oba Omowonuola Oyeyode Oyesosin is billed to be the Royal Father of the Day.
