2023: APC Primary In Irewole/Isokan/Ayedaade Constituency Marred With Irregularities, Absence Of Election Officers

As the All Progressives Congress (APC) held its House of Representatives primary on Friday 27th May, 2022 across the country, our Correspondents who monitored the process in Osun and Irewole/Isokan/Ayedaade Federal Constituency in particular reports that the primary was not only fair as it did not hold in many wards, but was also marred with several irregularities with to many ineligible voters who were allowed to vote by God-knows-who.

Several party members who spoke to our correspondent noted that the election refused to hold as late as 4PM in some wards the constituencies, they added that they could not see officials of the party to conduct elections for them.

At Wards 7 and 8 in Isokan Local Government, till 5PM the election did not hold despite the fact that the voters/supporters were on ground from early in the morning. The supporters added that some people who appeared to be from the electoral body came around in the morning to ask for the numbers of voters at the unit and left.

Also there was confusion at Apomu Collation centre in Faro, there was neither no presence of electoral members at the centre till late in the evening.

It was also gathered that the low turn witnessed in the election was due to an instruction from some stalwart of the party to all party members to go out and vote the incumbent member representing the constituency,  a decision that did no go well with other aspirants and several party members.

Sources revealed that no election held across all wards in Ayedaade local government as well adding the few wards where it held in Isokan and Irewole could not be called a party primary as no accreditation was done to affirm who is a party member and who is not.

Till Sunday evening, supporters of aspirants for various positions in the primary elections of the All Progressives Congress in Osun state have been congratulating them (aspirants) on their victories in the exercise, even though official results of the primary were yet to be released.

Recall that Osun had opted for direct primary which enabled all party members holding valid membership cards to vote for the aspirants of their choice at each ward’s collation centre of the 332 wards in the state.

As of Sunday morning, official results of the State Assembly primary held on Thursday were yet to be released leaving suspicions that alot of issues may have happened and results may not reflect what truly happened on the day of election.

Also, results of the House of Representatives primary held on Friday were still being expected even as elections to pick senatorial candidates were being held.

Non-release of the results has not, however, deterred supporters from congratulating the aspirants.

Several conflicting results were also circulated across social media platforms awarding victories to different aspirants.

Secretary of a Congress Committee set up by APC in the state to assist groups sent by the national secretariat of the party to conduct the primary, Mr. Sunday Akere, when speaking with our correspondent on the development said, “The results are coming in. The Committee in charge of the State Assembly primary will announce the results in full. The Committee in charge of the House of Representatives will also announce the results. The national returning committee will make necessary announcements.”
