Civic Engagement: Osun Govt Launches Website For Interaction With Residents

 

 

The Osun State Government, on Tuesday, launched a web platform to further expand residents’ access to lending their voices to government’s policies and programmes in the state, AMILOADED reports.

The state government stated that the platform would bridge the gap between the government and people and as well strengthen the communication channels for effective interactions.

The Special Adviser to Osun State Governor on Civic Engagement, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, made this known while speaking at the unavailing of the platform at the Osun Civic Engagement Center in Osogbo, the state capital on Tuesday.

He said the platform would in turn created avenue for partnership with multinational corporations and Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs), who are interested in improving living condition of rural dwellers.

“This platform has been so designed in a way that the populace of the state could drop their enquiries or complaints and also reach out to the government whenever the need arises via quick response dedicated lines and email address on it.

“It should be noted that it isn’t possible for government to reach out to all residents individually. By this, they can reach the government and in return, the government can reach them.

“The web platform will serve as feedback mechanism between government and people in the rural areas of development as well as communication of government policies and programmes. Consequently, projecting the activities of the state government to the outside world,” Oyintiloye said.

Speaking on the mandate of the agency, Oyintiloye stated that the centre is interfacing with the people across social strata to promote social democratic ideals through inclusive and participatory governance.

He said the centre has position the state for harmonious living and accelerated development through the art of listening, responsiveness, inclusiveness and robust engagement.

“Equally, it (center) has strengthened citizens’ voices, facilitating social cohesion and supporting citizens’ participation in democratic process.

“Also, it has offered both the citizens and government a better understanding of problems and needs, opinions and priorities as well as promoting community representation in decision making,” he added.

In their separate remarks, the Chairman, Osun State Universal Basic Education Board, Ajibola Famurewa, Special Adviser to the Governor on Water and Sanitation, Amidu Tadese, Special Adviser on Environment, Rufus Oyegbile, among others commended the agency for living up to it bidding in facilitating easy access between the state government and the people.
