A youth-based non-governmental-organization focused on community development, good governance and youth entrepreneurship, Brainbuilders Youth Development Initiative, BBYDI, will on Thursday, 27 January, 2022, launch a policy document on the impacts of COVID-19 pandemic on Nigeria’s education sector and the way forward.
The Executive Director of the organisation, Abideen Olasupo, who disclosed this in a statement on Monday, said the event will hold at dHub Innovation Centre, Ilorin by 10 am.
According to him, the policy document is a product of our research into the effects of Covid-19 on Nigeria’s education sector which was supported by the Global Campaign for Education (GCE).
The launching of the policy document tagged ‘Ride To Remote: Towards Improving Nigeria’s Education System Amidts COVID-19’ will come on the heels of the observance of this year’s International Day of Education.
Olasupo who explained that education was among the worst hit sectors during the peak of the pandemic, said the policy Brief was developed to support the effort of policy actors to build an equitable education system in Nigeria.
The statement reads in part: “educational institutions were among the most affected institutions during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic as education was truncated while laying bare the gap in access to digital technology, equitable education, work and employment opportunities for the young people.
“The policy document we are set to launch next Thursday, is the outcome of a whole range of findings we conducted, which are not limited to fake news, mental health challenges, self-development paths etc. In addition, this olicy brief was developed to support the effort of policy actors to build an equitable education system in Nigeria.
“At the unveiling of the policy document which will be attended by relevant stakeholders, the Press and concerned members of the public, we shall present our findings, recommendations and listen to feedback. We believe that this project is an important step on the road to improving our education system and also prepare us for unforeseen circumstances like the ones presented by COVID-19.”
