#Lekki Tollgate: Over 73,000 Sign Petition Against Buhari’s Govt Under 24hrs

A petition by a socio-political activist, Reno Omokri against President Muhammadu Buhari over the alleged massacre of EndSARS protesters at the Lekki Tollgate during the October 20, 2020, protest, has received over 73,000 signatures from Nigerians both home and abroad under 24 hours.

Recall that a leaked report by the Lagos Panel of Inquiry set up by the State Government to investigate the allegations of killings at the Lekki Tollgate during the End SARS protest had revealed that there was massacre.

The report which emerged amid claim by the Federal Government that the allegations were false and aimed at tarnishing the image of the Buhari’s administration, had triggered controversies from Nigerians who challenged the presidency to defend the report.

Following the report which is currently being studied by the Lagos State government, the former presidential aide issued a petition on the change.org platform against Buhari for allegedly ordering the Lekki shooting.

When our correspondence visited the site on Friday morning, it was observed that about 72,779 Nigerians have signed the petition which is directed to the International Criminal Court – ICC, to prosecute the President over alleged violation of the rights of Nigerian youths.

According to Reno, the petition will be submitted to the President of the ICC, Piotr Hofmański after it receives 100k signature.

He said, “By the grace of God, Buhari will retire to prison in 2023 and all future Presidents will see that there is a consequence to the mass murder of Nigerians by the state”.

“While denials and cover ups on what actually happened on that fateful day took the order of the day, stakeholders and lovers of democracy and the international community continued to demand justice for those allegedly killed during the dastardly act.

“Consequently, the petitioners are also calling on the International Criminal Court to prosecute all those indicted.

“The petition was filed 18 hours ago. “The petition filed on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, is directed at the International Criminal Court and comes after Lagos Judicial Panel of Inquiry on EndSARS indicted the Buhari administration in its report.

“At 50,000 signatures, the petition is the first petition of Nigerian origin to hit that number in less than a day, showing the support of the Nigerian public to bring justice to those indicted.

“The body of the petition partly reads as follows:

“On Monday, November 15, 2021, the Lagos state Panel of Inquiry into EndSARS released its report to the state government in which it established judicially that the massacre did occured.

“This petition is therefore directed at the International Criminal Court to set machinery in motion for the trial of those indicted in the same way that former Liberian President, Charles Taylor, was tried and convicted.

“On this day, November 17, 2021, when my own beloved twin sons are celebrating their 14th birthday, they have given me permission to use their special day to call for justice for the many sons and daughters who will never have another birthday because they were killed in their prime,” Reno Omokri concluded in a statement.

  1. What goes around definitely comes around! I’m so excited about this development and i pray that it will end up in praise while justice is not only serve but seen served as deterrent to other people who don’t believe in the application of the rules of law nor only in my beloved nation. But elsewhere globally.
