Four Feared Dead, Others Injured As APC, APGA Campaigns Turn Bloody

Unknown Gunmen went on rampage in two locations in Anambra State on Sunday, killing four persons and injuring several people at an All Progressives Congress rally.

The hoodlums also set ablaze a car belonging to a leader of Prof. Chukwuma Soludo Campaign team, Dr Nelson Omenugha.

Soludo is the the All Progressives Grand Alliance governorship candidate in Anambra Satte.

While the attack on the APC took place during the party’s rally at Uruagu, Nnewi, the attack on Omenugha occurred at Nnobi in the Idemili South Local Government Area of the state.

It was gathered that an APC member, whose identity could not be ascertained, was killed in the attack at Nnewi with scores wounded, while the attack on the APGA chieftain took place in his home town, Nnobi, where three were reportedly killed.

The state publicity secretary of APC, Mr Okelo Madukaife confirmed the Nnewi incident.

He said, “The attack led to the death of our committed party official and the hospitalisation of many others.

“Our party regrets the invasion of our office and attack on members who were gathered for a meeting in Uruagu Ward 3, Nnewi, by persons yet- to -be- identified.

“We regret the loss and regard it as one violence too many in Anambra State that ought to be the safest state in Nigeria.

“We acknowledge that security in Anambra State as an area that requires serious intervention.”

On the attack on Omenugha, it was gathered that the attackers set his car ablaze, while he escaped to safety.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Ikenga Tochukwu while confirming the incident said, “They shot and attacked the unsuspecting members on transit along Afor Nnobi Market. The victims were rushed to the hospital and later confirmed dead by a medical doctor on duty.

“The Commissioner of Police in the state, Tony Olofu, has detailed a police crack team led by an Assistant Commissioner of Police for on-the-spot assessment.

“The team is to identify and apprehend the hoodlums and bring them to book.

The PPRO identified the deceased as Johnbosco Ojokwu (33), Rapuluchukwu Ugoeze (30) and Chukwuemeka Nwokebagu (31), adding that, “The hoodlums also set ablaze one shuttle bus, one Toyota Sienna and a Toyota Hilux”.

The APC governorship candidate, Senator Andy Uba, condemned Sunday’s killing of a member of the party in Nnewi North Local Government Area.

He said the murder was “obviously politically motivated, one murder too many,” He urged security agencies to arrest the worsening insecurity in the state.
