Veteran Nollywood actor, Sadiq Daba, who died from cancer, on Wednesday night, has been laid to rest.

His friend, Joe Odumakin, was said to have confirmed: “We have lost Sadiq. It’s so painful because I spoke to him a few days ago when his wife became a permanent secretary. I called his number some hours ago but his son picked it. I told him to give the phone to his father but he told me that his father is gone. I had to ask; gone to where?

“His wife just called me now and we spoke. She said that she was at the morgue. I asked what happened and she told me that about a week ago, he had been ill but he had been home and that he went to the hospital late afternoon today.

“She explained that he had not been eating much and that as soon as they got to the hospital, they started conducting different test including COVID-19. They put him on oxygen but he died around 8:30 pm.”

Daba breathed his last at the Lagos state university teaching hospital (LASUTH) where he was undergoing treatment on Wednesday.

He was subsequently laid to rest at the Hausa Community Cementry situated within the Agege area of Lagos state amid tears.

Among those who were present at the burial were his children and relatives; well-wishers who joined in to pay their last respects.

Daba’s death comes after he had battled leukemia and prostate cancer for years. In 2019, he had made the headlines after he sought financial support for his medical upkeep.

The 69-year-old has had an illustrious acting career while also doing well for himself in the broadcasting space with multiple awards and recognitions.

In 2015, Daba won the ‘Best Actor’ category at the Africa Movie Academy Award (AMAA) for his role as Inspector Waziri in the 2014 movie ‘October 1’.

The last major film role he took was Professor Yahaya in Kunle Afolayan’s ‘Citation’.
