BREAKING: Police Rescue Abducted Passengers In Osun, Give More Details

 

The Osun State Police Command has rescued the passengers who were kidnapped by suspected gunmen on Tuesday evening.

AMILOADED had earlier reported that the gunmen killed one and other passengers along Osogbo/Ibokun road.

 

 

AMILOADED gathered that the incident occurred between 7:40pm on Tuesday near Ajebandele, a village in the Obokun Local Government area, about three kilometres to Osogbo, the state capital.

However in a statement signed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Opalola Yemisi on Wednesday evening, said the two other female passengers have been rescued with bullet wounds to a hospital and are responding to treatment.

Yemisi disclosed that the incident which occurred on Tuesday around 7:40pm, where suspected gunmen emerged from the bush and blocked Ibokun/Osogbo road, along Oja-Tuntun area, Egbeda town in an attempt to kidnap and rob the unsuspecting victim(s) led to the death of a driver while attempting to maneuver and escape the blockade.

She added that the State Commissioner of Police, CP Olawale Olokode, psc in his assiduous task in ensuring that the state is not a safe haven for criminals; personally led the combined team of Police officers, vigilante and local hunters to comb bushes to ensure the perpetrators are arrested.

The statement reads below:

“Sequel to the incident of 2nd March, 2021 around 7:40pm, where a gang of criminals emerged from the bush and blocked Ibokun/Osogbo road, along Oja-Tuntun area, Egbeda town in an attempt to kidnap/rob the unsuspecting victim(s) and which led to the death of a driver while attempting to maneuver and escape the blockade, the Police in prompt response to the distress call rescued two other female passengers with bullet wounds to a hospital and are responding to treatment.

“Consequently, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olawale Olokode, psc in his assiduous task in ensuring that the state is not a safe haven for criminals; personally led the combined team of Police officers, vigilante and local hunters to comb bushes to ensure the perpetrators are arrested.

“He further reiterated his resolve that, all forms of criminal incendiary will be checkmated in all nook and crannies. Criminals are warned to have a rethink as the Command has declared total war on unscrupulous elements.

“Finally, the Commissioner of Police enjoined members of the public to support, co-operate and collaborate with the Police in fighting crime and bring it down to the barest minimum by giving useful and prompt information to the police.”
