The Shari’ah court in Osun has become a place of refuge for Muslim faithful seeking justice without unnecessary delay and ambiguities.
According to available record, the Osun State Independent Shari’ah Panel which started in 2006, has determined more than 55 per cent of the almost 400 cases before it.
The Registrar of the Shari’ah court in the state, Sheikh Musa Raji, who disclosed this to our correspondent said the cases were on marital issues, inheritance, leadership tussle, debt recovery and misunderstanding among some Islamic cooperative societies.
He said more Muslims in the state now preferred to approach the court because they were sure of getting justice.
The President of Osun State Muslim Community, Alhaji Mustafa Adeleke Olawuyi said the Shari’ah court has reduced the burden of congestion in Magistrates’ and High courts.
Raji spoke with out correspondent during the sideline of a seminar organised for the Qadis (judges) of the Shari’ah Court.
In their separate presentations, a former Osun State High Court judge, Justice Moshood Kunle Ajeigbe and a former Grand Qadi of Kwara State Shari’ah Court of Appeal, Ilorin, Hon. Justice S.O Muhammad (rtd) charged the Shari’ah court judges on fairness and equity.
One of the Muslim leaders in the state, Alhaji Abdullateef Olayanju said Muslims in the state were happy with the Shari’ah court for aiding justice delivery in line with Islamic laws.
The State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, who was represented by his Deputy Chief of Staff, Prince Abdullahi Binuyo, also charged the Shari’ah Panel to always adjudicate with fear of Allah.
