Sports lovers were on 15th of January, 2021 present at the Federal Polytechnic, Ede Sport Pavilion, venue of the final match played in honour of Otunba Isiaka Adeleke, the first executive Governor of Osun State.
The Otunba Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke Memorial Cup which was sponsored by the lawmaker representing Ede federal constituency at the National Assembly, Hon Bamidele Salam, was held to commemorate the 66th posthumous birthday of the former governor.
The final match of the football competition was played between Tanjo FC Ejigbo and Adeleke Dynasty FC Ede with the Adeleke Dynasty FC winning the trophy with a lone goal.
While speaking, the state commissioner for youth and sports, Hon Yemi Lawal, stated that present administration will not relent in its effort to complete the city stadium and the construction of another two mini stadia in Osun West and East senatorial districts of the state.
He further disclosed the plan of the sports ministry to revive Headmaster’s cup, inter-house sports and Governor’s cup in various schools across the state.
He stated, “As we speak, work is ongoing at Osun sport academy, Ile-Ogbo”
“The current administration has resolved to encourage grassroot sports and private individuals to participate in the development of sports in our dear state.”
On her part, the President of Adeleke Women of Substance, Mrs Modupeola Adeleke-Sanni, declared her support to Adeleke Dynasty FC and other participants of the competition in their chosen career.
Notable persons at the event include the Timi of Ede Land, HRM, Oba Adesola Munirudeen Lawal, Laminisa 1, former governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, who was present as the chairman of the occasion, Osun State Commissioner for Youth & Sports, Hon Yemi Lawal, and Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Dr John Taiwo Adekolawole.
Others are Hon Adewunmi Kofoworola Babajide, Osun House of Assembly Minority leader, Hon Olaniran Akanfe Atidade, Member representing Ede South State Constituency, Hon. Adewumi Adeyemi Irekandu, Member representing Obokun State Constituency, Akogun Lere Oyewumi, Prince Dotun Babayemi, Hon. Ibukun Fadipe and PDP stalwarts across the state.
