PHOTOS: Customs Intercepts 73 Guns, 891 Cartridges Concealed In Bags Of Rice, Arrests 3 Suspects

 

Officers of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on Sunday intercepted a truck smuggling guns and ammunition into Kebbi state.

In a statement on Sunday signed by the NCS Public Relations Officer, DC Joseph Atah said the truck was loaded with locally-produced rice, in which were concealed bags containing 73 locally-manufactured guns and 891 cartridges.

He disclosed that three persons have been arrested and detained while investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Officers of Nigeria Customs Service Federal operation unit zone B, on information patrol along Yauri, Zamare water side in Kebbi State, intercepted a truck loaded with locally produced rice with some sacks concealed under the rice.

Upon careful examination the bags were found to contain 73 locally manufactured guns and 891 cartridges.

Three (3) were immediately arrested and are being detained while preliminary investigation is ongoing.

He calls on members of the public, especially, border community dwellers to provide credible information for effective border security.
