As part of efforts to alleviate poverty and empower her constituents, the lawmaker representing Irewole/Ayiedaade/Isokan Federal Constituency of Osun at the Federal House of Representatives, Mrs Taiwo Oluga, on Sunday, distributed motorcycles, grinding machines, money and other items to her constituents.

On Sunday, Oluga distributed the items in Gbongbo and Ayiedaade Local Government Area of Osun, while noting that the distribution of the items are to complement the federal government’s effort in minimizing and eradicating poverty in the Nigeria.

Some of the items distributed among constituents include four cheques of N500,000 to each of four market women heads (Iyalojas), 75 motorcycles, 45 deep freezers, 15 hair dryers, 18 grinding machines and 15 sewing machines.

“Bringing dividend of democracy back to our constituents, I think it is part of our effort to support the federal government in bringing down poverty level.

“It is part of our effort to support the federal level in bringing down the rates at which poverty is really multiplying,” Oluga said.

She added that by empowering her constituents, they would find it easy to fend for their families and as well be independent.

“Number one, if you look at the socio-economic effects of what we have done today, the multiplier effects on our people that we have empowered, it will give them ample opportunity to fend for their family and to make them to be independent.

“And for even those that will be using the tools at their stores, at their shops, at the market, you can be sure this will go a long way in reducing redundancy , in reducing sitting down at home, and depression and frustration,” she stated.

Oluga stated that she has the desire to see members of her constituents out of poverty in the nearest future adding that the empowerment is not about political affiliations.

“I want to see my federal constituency being out of poverty in the nearest future, but we cannot say that alone, what we can do is to assist them in their jobs, especially the artisans that is why we have included them in what we have done today.

“This empowerment is not about political party; it is across board.  I believe by the time we do this repeatedly, our federal constituency, our state and country will be out of poverty,” the lawmaker noted.

However, she advised beneficiaries to use the items collected judiciously, and that the market women heads, who have received cash amount, should make the money available as a revolving loan, to empower traders under them.
