Ede Is Proud Of You’, Siyan Oyeweso Felicitates Musibau Adetunbi On SAN Title

Siyan Oyeweso, a professor of History and International Studies who is currently the Executive Director of Center for Black Culture and International Understanding, Osogbo has hailed Musibau Adetunbi, saying that Ede is proud of him following his elevation to the rank of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

 

“Ede is proud of you and consider you as one of our worthy ambassadors. Osun State, your state of birth rejoices with you on the attainment of the highest coveted rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria. Nigeria is also proud of you,” Oyeweso said.

 

Oyeweso who is also an indigene of Ede referred to Adetunbi as a new addition of silk from Jagun Olukosi Compound, Ede town of Osun state.

 

Adetunbi is one of the Seventy-Two (72) high ranking Legal practitioners recently conferred with the silk title by the Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee.

 

The conferment of the highly coveted rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria underscores professionalism and performance as a learned advocate and a respected legal luminary of distinction.

 

As at November 2020, Nigeria has produced a total of 598 Senior Advocates of Nigeria since the title was first conferred on April 3, 1975.

According to a report, a total of 137 Lawyers were shortlisted for the rank of Senior Advocates of Nigeria in 2020 – with 166 advocate applicants and 21 academic applicants. Of the 137 candidates shortlisted, 72 were successful, while 60 did not make the cut.

 

Adetunbi was shortlisted as one of the advocate applicants following his standing as a distinguished Legal practitioner over the years. Prior to 2020, Ede had produced two Senior Advocates of Nigeria viz: Dr. Ismail Abiodun Layonu (2009) and Chief Yomi Aliyu (2017).

 

The Senior Advocate is a distinguished Alumnus of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, who also holds B.L, Nigeria Law School and MCIArb, United Kingdom. He is also a proud member of such professional bodies as the Nigeria Bar Association, Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK), International Bar Association and Commonwealth Lawyers Association. He is a Chartered Arbitrator, Federal Attorney, and Litigator among others.

Oyeweso said the new silk “is an experienced legal practitioner in complex criminal or civil cases in several areas of law such as banking, criminal law, election-petition, real estate, maritime, arbitration, customary law, law of tort and intellectual property”.

 

He added that Adetunbi’s exploits in litigation has earned him several favourable judgments in all the superior courts of record in Nigeria and has equally been highly commended by all these courts.

 

The Professor noted that Adetunbi’s experience and knowledge are however not limited to litigation; as he equally solves tasking non-litigation legal problems with ease of simple arithmetic. His passion in ensuring that complex legal problems are tackled with full commitment and dedication is adjudged excellent by his legal colleagues.”
