Court Remands Three For Allegedly Shooting, Killing, Man During Looting In Osogbo

A Magistrates’ Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun state has on Monday ordered the remand of three persons for allegedly shooting a worker and causing his death while looting a firm in the state recently.

The arraigned suspects are Aishat Mutiu, aged 21, Oyewale Segun, 22 and Ijaye Shola, aged 22.

The accused persons and others now at large were arraigned on four-count charges bordering on conspiracy, armed robbery and murder.

Police prosecutor, ASP Idoko John told the court that the accused persons committed the offence on or about October 24, 2020 at about 11:00am at TUNS International Holding Limited, Osogbo.

John said the accused persons did arm themselves with guns, cutlasses, iron rods, sticks and other dangerous weapons and robbed one Badmus Taofeek Olakunle of his belongings.

Among the items are laptops, Computer, printers, Rugs, Standing fans, Televisions, bags of salt, flour, sugar, baking soda, wall clocks, office chairs and tables, tins of yeast, two big generators, six electric ovens, bread slice machines, thousands of cartons of biscuit, popcorn machines, and others which value are yet to be estimated.

The Prosecutor stated that the stolen items are properties of TUNS International Holding Limited, Osogbo.

The prosecutor further stated that the trio did unlawfully shoot the worker of TUNS farm, Abdul Rasheed Olawale with gun and killed him in the process.

According to John, the offense committed is contrary to and punishable under section 6(b), 1(1) (2) (a) (b), 324 and 319 (1) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act Cap RII Vol. 14 Laws of Federation of Nigeria, 2004 and criminal Code Cap 34 Vol ll Law of Osun State 2002.

However, the pleas of the accused persons were not taken by the Magistrate. court.

The accused persons were represented by their Counsels, Taiwo Awokunle, Chief Bola Abimbola Ige, A.A Adelowo and A.O Olodo.

Modupe Awodele, the Presiding Magistrate ordered the remand of the accused persons in Ilesa Correctional Center.

She further ordered the Osun police command to refer the duplicate case file to the ministry of justice for legal advice.

Thereafter, Awodele adjourned the matter to December 9th, 2020 and transferred the matter to Magistrate court lll.
