Osun Youth Agenda Hub Calls on Governor Oyetola To Sign Youth Development Commission Bill

The Osun Youth Agenda (OYA) has called on the Governor of the state, Gboyega Oyetola to assent to the Osun Youth Development Commission Establishment Bill.

OYA made this known in a statement signed by Bukola Idowu, the Coordinating Director of Osun Youth Agenda Hub which was made available to AMILOADED on Wednesday.

The group said following the recent occasion to demand justice, institutional reform, and ask for good governance. it implies the urgent need for a government response through a clear and strategic youth development plan.

“This also implies the urgent need for a government response through a clear and strategic youth development plan,” OYA stated.

According to the group, it is solidly in support of peace loving young Nigerians who are legitimately demanding good governance and justice against police brutality, but unequivocally condemn looting private businesses, attacks on peaceful protesters and properties.

“However, it is necessary to state that all of these anti-social behaviors show the level of disorientation amidst large numbers of young persons and the height of moral decadence in our society.

“It is noteworthy to acknowledge the great work done by the 7th Assembly under the leadership of Hon. Timothy Owoeye in passing the OYDC Est. Bill 2020, Kimpact Development Initiative urges His Excellence Gov. Gboyega Oyetola to see the signing of the OYDC Est. Bill as a lasting solution to youth development in Osun state.

“Furthermore, it is essential to reiterate that the OYDC Est. Bill 2020 captures the developmental needs of Osun Youths – Equitable Health Care System and Process, Quality Education, Improved Agriculture, Ease of doing business, Gainful Employment that is anchored on the principles of Global Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and many more.

The group added that the OYDC will provide leadership in setting priorities and direction for all youth promotion and development programs and activities noting that it would encourage and enhance the youth’s state-wide active participation in all governmental and non-governmental programs, projects, and activities affecting them.

“This OYDC Est. Bill 2020 as passed by the state House of Assembly structured the Osun Youth Development Commission in a way that will not put any financial burden on Gov. Gboyega Oyetola led administration; the commission will even complement government appropriations for youth promotion and development with funds from other sources.

“The bill allows the commission to seek private-sector partnerships, grants, and endowment. To highlight a few. Additionally, in staffing, staff from other departments and agencies can be redeployed to the commission and not necessarily new employment.

“We are equally aware that there are some vacant spaces at the state Secretariat; this can be assigned to the commission. Institutionalizing Youth Development and signing the OYDC bill into law in Osun State will not make Osun Youth not to forget your legacy, and your name will forever be written in gold in the history of the state,” OYA further stated.
