See How Nigerian Students Reacted To Increase In Electricity Tariff, Fuel Price

The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Southwest has reacted to the increment of electricity tariff and fuel price by the Federal Government.

This was revealed to our correspondent on Wednesday in a statement signed by the Coordinator of NANS Southwest, Comrade Kappo Samuel and the Public Relations Officer(PRO) of the association, Comrade Olatunji Nurudeen.

According to the statement, “We of the National Association of Nigerian Students South West Zone, received with rude shock the announcement in the increment in Fuel price to #152 as depot price, which might prompt the end user to buy as close as #162 per litre! This came on the heel of the Electricity Tarrif hiked from #22/kWh to #66/kWh translating to 80 units now standing at around #4,000 to #5,000 depending on your service provider!

“These is a clear departure from the norm and a complete deviation from the APC manifesto which we voted for!

“Nigerian Students like the rest of Nigerians believed in the ideology and well presented manifesto of the APC led federal government when seeking the mandate being enjoyed presently.

“Shockingly, “as things dey go, things come dey bad, e dey bad more and more”, especially in the face of this present two retrogressive policies of increment of Fuel and Electricity tarrif increment, even when vast majority of Nigerians are yet to reconcile with the effect and austerity brought about by the Covid 19 pandemic.

“We trust in this Government to still do the needful in the interest of Nigerians welfare whom they swore an oath to improve on .

“This our TRUST should be RECIPROCATED by improving on pro people policies and actions, lest, we lose our patience and the trust in the process and we unleash the Nigerian Students wrath on the Government of the day !

“It has become a criminal conspiracy for us to maintain decorum in the face of these inconsiderate increments which are clearly inimical to the welfare of our Students vis a vis the working people.

“These excruciating increments are not masses friendly, neither are they in conformity with the current situation where Nigerians are sweating profusely before they can get one meal per day!

“There’s no dissenting opinion about the fact that the ravaging Coronavirus has wrecked enormous havoc on our system, the economy is dwindling, many Nigerians have lost their jobs, many breadwinners have kicked the bucket, lots more are still unsure of what tomorrow holds.

“Theses increment should not be, it shall not be, we shall resist it !.

“On this note, we urge President Muhammadu Buhari and APC bigwigs to quickly intervene and bring the much needed succour before it would be too late. Lest, we shall not hesitate to return to the barricades with our entire arsenal.”
