Osun NYCN Warns Those Sabotaging Govts’ Efforts At Developing Youths, Plans For IYD 2020

The National Youth Council of Nigeria, Osun State chapter has warned those who have been sabotaging the efforts of governments at ensuring that youth develop in their various communities to desist from such act.

NYCN gave this warning while addressing a press conference to heard the International Youth Day 2020 coming up on August 12.

The Chairman of the youth council, Comrade Abdulazeez Ismail said the International Youth Day celebration is a time where youths across the globe discuss ways to be better engaged and developed.

According to Isamil, the theme of IYD 2020: “Youth Engagement for Global Action” seeks to highlight the ways in which the engagement of young people at the local, national and global levels is enriching national and multilateral institutions and processes, as well as draw lessons on how their representation and engagement in formal institutional politics can be significantly enhanced.

To ensure that youths develop, Ismail sought for a holistic approach to efforts of government in the areas of youth and community development and warned those jeopardising these efforts to restrain.

He pleaded with the state government to look into Osun Youth Development Commission Bill by assenting it as it will further help the development of the youth in the state.

“During this pandemic period, it will interest you to know that various youths and youth organizations went on the streets to engage the public by creating awareness of the virus and also sensitizing them on the need for prevention.

“Majority of youth organizations and NGOs also went as far as providing relief materials to the public during the lockdown for the deadly virus which is not limited to distribution of nosemask, hand sanitizers, soaps and provision of running water to the public spaces among other facilities.

“Before the lockdown imposed on the country, we have embarked on an ICT training as NYCN of State where youths across the state are trained on Graphic Design, Programming and Web Design. The lockdown affected this, but online approach was adopted towards ensuring that our youths are actively engaged.

“Therefore, I am glad to inform the general public that immense work has been done on the Osun Youth Magazine tagged “Voice of the Youth Magazine”. It is an encompassing print media document which does not leave behind the achievement of youths, government success, opportunities for the youth among others,” he said.

Ismail added that “Constitutionally, the Governor of the state, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola is expected to be conferred as the Grand Patron of Osun Youth and we sincerely appreciate our dogged Commissioner and the Coordinating Director for their efforts to ensure the constitutional requirements come to reality as we shall also confer on First Lady Kafayat Oyetola the Grand Patroness of Osun Youth, all as part of this year’s 2020 International Youth Week.”

He however appreciated the United Nations (UN) for bringing up the theme which is expected to be a call on the world leaders and also wake up the youths from their slumber to take up responsibilities.

He also thanked President Muhammadu Buhari through the Hon. Minster of Youth and Sport for the approval of National Youth Investment Fund, in which a certain amount of money will be made available for youth in small and medium scale businesses.

“This money is will help and also boost the economy of the state. We then urge them not to be political in the selection of the beneficiaries,” he noted.
