Amotekun Reacts As Police Arrest Official, Two Others For Allegedly Stealing Raw Gold In Osun

The operatives of Amotekun Corps in Osun State have reacted to reports claiming that the men of the Police, Division C, Aganhun, Ile Ife, have arrested one of her corps officials in the state identified as Lukas and two others for allegedly stealing raw golds.

AMILOADED gathered through EyewitnessMedia that the suspected Lukas was arrested on Friday for allegedly stealing raw gold from Jioore mining site, Oke-Owenna, Ile-Ife, alongside one Sunday and a yet to be identified man from the northern part of the country.

The district head in charge of the area, Chief Adebayo Akinola John, disclosed to our correspondent that he hired Sunday who used to work with Chinese miners to work on his cocoa farm before he (Sunday) began several suspicious moves.

According to the district head, “I have been noticing him especially his sudden keen friendship with Lukas and some other Amotekun guys.

“So one of my wives called me to inform me about Sunday’s return from a mining site with the Amotekun guy, so I ordered them to search him before allowing him to enter the house which they did and did not find anything on him.

“In fact, they lured him into a room and lock him up, hoping to stop him from leaving the house till I return that day but he broke out. Shortly after my return, he walked in and I confronted him which he could not deny.” The Baale noted.

Confirming the report, the Investigative Police Officer (I.P.O) in charge of the case, Inspector Busola Joseph revealed that the suspects have been assisting with useful information, assuring that the law will take its place.

Joseph said: “Sunday, the prime suspect has helped with useful information which led to the arrest of the Amotekun guy and the Hausa man who has been buying the alleged stolen item from him.”

Meanwhile, in a statement signed on Friday’s night by Mr Lateef Agboola, the head of Media team of Amotekun Corps, said the story was a failed attempt to tarnish the image of the Amotekun Corps in Osun State.

He demanded that the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Undie Adie to use his office to launch thorough investigation into the matter.

According to the statement titled ‘Re: Police Nab Amotekun Corps, two others for stealing in Osun’ which reads: “Attention of Amotekun Corps, State of Osun Osun has been drawn to an online story with the above headline and the following are our positions:

“One, Amotekun Osun has been a reputable security outfit since Governor ADEGBOYEGA OYETOLA appointed a renowned Rights Activist, Comrade Amitolu Shittu, as its director general with numerous achievements it has recorded which has brought Osun into the world map, within the shortest period.

“However, it is natural that whenever you are fighting corruption, at any level of governance, corruption is bound to fight back. Since those who are into illegal mining have used every available means to bring Amotekun leadership to their side, but have always met the brick wall, we knew they were up to something.

“It is on record that the same Amotekun corps in the state of Osun has arrested hundreds of illegal miners both local and expatriates without compromising.

“It is an indisputable fact that Illegal miners, like many other syndicates, are very powerful people who can go to any length to get rid of whoever that stands on their ways and this is what is now playing out.

“It is noteworthy that Amotekun adhoc staff are currently policing no fewer than eleven illegal mining sites in Osun and there is no record of compromise since, then why was it that this is coming from such quarter at the moment?

“The Ile Ife story was a failed attempt to tarnish the good image of Amotekun Corps in the state of Osun, because the good people of Osun and lover of Truth and justice would know the futility of such an exercise.

“Since the Amotekun guy, who was indicted by a gold thief, is currently in the police custody in Ile Ife, we demand that the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Undie Adie, used his good office to launch thorough investigation, to get to the root of this, in the spirit of fairness and justice.

“The image of Amotekun in the state ofOsun remains untainted while the reputable state owned security outfit would not compromise, no matter the level of intimidation and conspiracy.”
