Police Drag Man To Court For Allegedly Stealing OAU’s Cattle

The Osun State Police Command on Tuesday dragged a 25-year-old man, Sulaiman Ibrahim, before the Osun State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ile-Ife for allegedly stealing four cattle belonging to the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

He was charged with conspiracy and stealing.

The police prosecutor, Elijah Adesina, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on May 30, 2020, at a commercial farm located on the OAU campus.

He expressed that the defendant and others currently at large stole four cattle valued at N1.6m, which belonged to the Students Economic Empowerment and Development Programme, OAU.

The Prosecutor explained that the offences were said to contravene sections 383, 390(9) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

When the count charges were read to the accused, he pleaded not guilty.

His counsel, Omodogbe Babawale, urged the court to admit him to bail.

In her ruling, Magistrate Muhibah Olatunji admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N750,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She however adjourned the case till June 30, 2020, for hearing.
