Aregbesola, Osun PDP Trade Words Over Birthday Virtual Colloquium

The Peoples Democratic Party in Osun state has strongly criticised the immediate past governor of the state and the current Minister of Interior, Mr Rauf Aregbesola for hosting a virtual colloquium to mark his 63rd birthday where he justified the actions he took during his reign as the two-time governor of the state.

For the PDP, Aregbesola destroyed the fortunes of Osun and plunged the state into wanton debt. This alleged maladministration, the major opposition party claimed were enough to have earned the former governor jail term for financial crimes, should Nigeria be operating a sane system.

The PDP in a statement through its Publicity Secretary, Hon Sunday Bisi, on Sunday said Aregbesola appeared to have forgotten the how he allegedly mismanaged the state, as he made efforts to defend his actions and policies during his administration.

The party advised Mr Aregbesola “to stop struggling with open wound of his conscience which can only be healed by truthful admission of his failure occasioned by his insatiable lust for money bouyed by competitive tendencies of uncanny fraud.”

PDP described some members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the country who participated in the Colloquium as “innocent victims of misinformation and eminent guests railroaded to window dress a tattered image.”

The PDP said the colloquium was uncalled for given that the measured assets on ground in Osun State are far below the alleged quantum of the loans accessed by Aregbesola to achieve the largely undelivered assets.

The party challenged the colloquium participants to ask their Aregbesola for justifiable reasons behind non-completion of all major projects pinned to the loans obtained on behalf of the state.

Reacting on Monday, Aregbesola described the attack on his person by the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party as malicious.

He said this in a statement by his media aide, Sola Fasure, in Osogbo on Monday.

Aregbesola said the attack on his person was an indication that the PDP had taken malice to a new low, adding that the case of the party might be beyond redemption.

The statement reads, “It is a collection of mumbo jumbo, asinine and puerile effusions emanating from diseased minds.

“If they can find faults with award winning programmes copied by other states and multilateral agencies like the World Bank and UNICEF, and will disparage excellent performance and the sound judgements of established and respected professionals and experts, then the PDP in Osun has taken malice to a new low and their case may be beyond redemption.”
