Amid mounting questions surrounding the whereabouts of a 15-man Chinese medics, the federal government has stated that the Chinese are still in Nigeria on a mission to help the country build and equip isolation centres.
Speaking during the presidential task force briefing n Covid-19 on Tuesday, May 19, Rauf Aregbesola, minister of interior, said that the Chinese medics came to “Nigeria to share their experiences in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Legit.ng recalls that the arrival of the Chinese medics generated a ripple of controversies as Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) earlier vehemently rejected the move by the government to bring them to the country.
Osagie Ehanire, minister of health, later said they tested negative to the pandemic, adding that the Chinese health officials would be sharing experiential strategies of how their country curtailed the spread of the virus.
But with questions coming out on the whereabouts of the health personnel, Aregbesola said the Chinese doctors are still in Nigeria on the bill of CCECC, a Chinese company working in Nigeria.
He emphasised that they have been participating in equipping of various isolation centres in the country.
”Indeed 15 Chinese nationals came into Nigeria on April 8. From everything we have heard and said, they were here on the bill of CCECC, a Chinese company working in Nigeria, doing some work for us in several places.
“At Idu, they participated in retrofitting and equipping the isolation centre there. They equally worked on the some project that was handled by the NNPC consortium in conjunction with THISDAY. Those are the location in which they came to work,” the interior minister said.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the House of Representatives has questioned the minister of health regarding the whereabouts of the Chinese doctors who came to Nigeria to assist in the Covid-19 fight.
The lawmakers demanded full details of the activities of the Chinese doctors during their plenary on Tuesday, May 19.
