A 47-year-old man, Raphael Okuwe, on Thursday arraigned before an Osun State Magistrates’ Court, Osogbo, for allegedly transporting 12bags of Indian hemp and parading himself as Deputy Superintendent of the Nigeria Police.
The defendant was arraigned on two counts charges of unlawful possession of indian hemp and impersonation.
The prosecutor, John Idoko, told the court that the defendant was arrested on 6th of May, 2020 around 9:40am at Oke-Imesi junction, Esa Oke, Osun State.
Idoko said that the accused person without lawful authority had in his possession twelve bags of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp otherwise known as cannabis, Narcotic drug and falsely presented himself as Deputy Superintendent of the Nigeria Police.
The prosecutor expressed that the offence contravened the provision of Section 430 and 109 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.
When the count charges were read to the accused, he pleaded not guilty.
His counsel, Mr Tunbosun Oladipupo, urged the court to grant him bail in the most liberal term, disclosing that the car of his client is with the police and would not jump bail.
In his ruling, Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties.
He however adjourned the case to July 9, 2020 for mentioning.
