Coronavirus: OAU Shut Down Campus As Muslim Community Suspends Jumu’at Service Till Further Notice

The students, Staff and Non-Staff of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile Ife were put out of their mystery and confusion as the management of the University obeyed the directive of the Federal Government by shutting down the campus this morning.

In a release signed by the Registrar of the University, Mrs. M.I Omosule confirmed that the university would be closed according to the directive of the Federal Government.

According to the statement released, “In line with the directive of the Federal Government that all Federal Tertiary institutions be closed, in order to prevent the further spread of COVID-19, the Vice Chancellor on behalf of Senate has directed all the University be closed from Monday, 23rd March, 2020 till further notice.

” Consequently, all students are hereby directed to vacate their Halls of Residence and the University premises not less than 5:00pm on Monday, 23rd March, 2020.

“However, staff of the University are expected to be at their respective duty posts.”

In view of this, the Muslim Community of the University has suspended Jumuat service from today till further notice.

This was made known in a statement signed by the Imam of the University, Professor Abubakr Abefe this morning.

” The Jumuat Solaat is suspended from today until new directive is announced, ” the Imam said.
