Osun State Police have paraded nine suspects over various crimes allegedly perpetrated across the state.
The offences ranged from possession of human parts, armed robbery and impersonation of the Nigerian Navy.
One of the suspects paraded was a cemetery attendant, Adesina Adeniyimi who was caught with human skulls and livers.
The 42 year-old Adeniyimi, according to the State Police Commissioner, Mr Johnson Kokumo, was arrested on 28th January, 2020 at 1:00pm on Iwo/Ibadan Road, Iwo, Osun state.
He said some policemen, while on patrol, had intercepted a commercial bus where two severed human skulls and a decomposing liver were recovered.
Adeniyimi, of Kajola area, Iwo was said to have confessed that the recovered human parts were removed from Muslim cemetery and mortuary where he worked as an attendant.
The CP further said that the suspect’s accomplice, one Oluwole Olapade, aged 58 of Yemetu area, Ibadan, Oyo State was later arrested for asking the cemetery attendant to fetch him the parts at the sum of N20,000.
Kokumo explained that the human parts were to be used to prepare charms and that he had instructed that body be recovered for identification.
Also, the CP paraded five suspects for allegedly impersonating the Nigerian Navy. The suspects are Akinsiju Sunkanmi, aged 27, Aniedu Essiet, 23, Nwabueze Ijeoma Daliton, 37, Raheem Quadric, 20 and a 22-year-old Gabriel Jacob.
Kokumo stated that some Navy officers had on January 19, 2020 at about 6:300pm at Old Garage area in Osogbo, accosted Sunkanmi who was wearing a camouflage uniform and claimed to be a personnel of Nigeria Merchant Navy but could not give a satisfactory account of himself.
“Therefore, the Naval Officers got him arrested and handed over to Police at Dugbe Police Station Osogbo, where the case was later transcend in this Department for further investigation. Detectives swung into action an stubbed the illegal Merchant camp at Orolu, Ifon Osun where the some exhibits were recovered,” the CP said.
Exhibits recovered from the five suspects included seven mock riffles, nine cutlasses, three camouflage headtie, one camouflage pullover, three Naval face cap, one naval beret, a pair of camouflage uniform among others.
Also, the Police paraded two suspected armed robbers: Emmanuel Okafor, aged 30 from Umuleri in Anambra State and Chinedu Francis, aged 25 from Ohafia in Abia State.
The CP said, “on 2nd February, 2020 at 4:00am, following a tip-off from intelligence led policing, a combined team of operation “PUFF ADDER” attached to Osu Divisional Police Headquarters and Vigilante group, ambushed and engaged some suspected armed robbers in a firefight at Oluwadatiti forest along Osu-llesa express road as they emerged to challenge the suspects, they opened fire on the Police.
“Consequently, during the cause of exchange of gun fire, one of the suspected robbers simply identified by his cohorts as Raymond, from Okene in Kogi State received bullet wounds and was later confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
“Meanwhile, Emmanuel Okafor and Chinedu Francis who where given hot chase surrendered themselves for arrest due to the ruthless effort of the operatives. Exhibits recovered from the suspected robbers included 10 dummy guns wrapped in black cello tape, one machete, one fabricated Iron nail, three Torchlights, three shells of expended cartridges and three mobile phones,” the CP revealed.
Kokumo has therefore assured citizens of the State and travellers to go about their lawful businesses without fear of insecurity.
