Alleged Assault Of Agbowu: Oluwo Demands Apology From Critics, Denies Beating Fellow Monarch

The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi has denied the allegations that he assaulted a fellow monach, Agbowu of Ogbaagba, Oba Dhirulahi Akinropo during a peace meeting in the state and demanded for apology from his critics.

Addressing a press conference at the Correspondents’ chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Osogbo on Tuesday, the Paramount ruler of Iwo Kingdom said he was ganged up against because of his disapproval of indiscriminate sales of land by the affected monarchs.

He asked the aggrieved monarchs who were calling for his suspension to publicly apologise to him and respect him as the Paramount ruler who lifted them from minor chiefs to Obas.

At the peace meeting convened by the Assistant Inspector General of Police for Zone 11, Oluwo said there was only an altercation between himself and some monarchs, insisting that he did not punch Oba Akinropo.

Oluwo said he was only against monarchs who are impoverishing their subjects by grabbing their lands and rendering them homeless.

He said many residents of several parts of Iwo beseech his palace to complain against monarchs who allegedly sale lands indiscriminately and dispossess them of their lands.

Oluwo further claimed that he had made frantic efforts to dissuade the monarchs from selling people’s lands but they were adamant.

“I did not punch Agbowu of Ogbaagba, Oba Dhirulahi Akinropo. Yes, there was an altercation during the peace meeting but I didn’t hit him. I brought them to the police to talk to them; I warned them against selling people’s lands.

“I know how to develop my town because of my exposure. They are not happy because they know I am trying to liberate my people from these kings who have been gaining pleasure in selling their future.”

“I am fighting Corruption in a traditional way. They are selling a hectares of land at the rate of 60, 0000 naira which I am kicking against. I didn’t touch Agbowu of Ogbaagba, although he was aggressive but we later resolved it.

Mixing tradition with religion or westerns will continue to bring problems to him. He needs orientations and move closer to other Oba who have been on the Throne before him. Kabiyesi oo.
