Osun lawmaker, Jayeola, Empowers 260 Widows, Doles Out Food Stuff, Others

Lawmaker representing Ila Constituency in the Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Lateef Adebisi Jayeola, on Sunday put smiles on the faces of 260 widows in his constituency.

The beneficiaries of Jayeola’s empowerment programme were mostly old women and widows drawn from across all the wards within Ila State constituency.

The lawmaker gave them food stuff and other items, including fabrics to support their livelihood.

Speaking at the event tagged: “7-in-1 empowerment for the aged” which was held at the Ila Town Hall, Jayeola, described the gesture as part of his pro-masses programmes designed to banish hunger and lift people out of poverty.

He maintained that the welfare of his people was a priority and not an option, adding that the widows were vulnerable citizens who must be supported by any serious government and wealthy individuals.

Jayeola reiterated his commitment to even and equitable distribution of resources, saying no effort would be spared to ensure a better life for all in the constituency.

He added that the initiative was a little way to give back to the people, particularly the elderly citizens and the vulnerable.

According to him, the incentives would serve as a palliative and huge relief for the people particularly the aged who hitherto had little or nothing to live on.

He said: “The welfare of our people is a priority, not an option. We are doing this to give back to our people, particularly the electorate who voted for us and stood by us.

“As a matter of fact, we have designed several programmes to better the lives of our people and the one we are doing today is one of them.

“What we are doing goes beyond welfare package for the aged. Our social protection initiatives are also designed to cater for the need of the youths, men and women, young and old.

“We are working assiduously to support the State in the areas of education as this informed us on the step we took to ensure that Ila constituency has its own technical college as a way to promote technical and vocational skills.

“God had used us to empower some of our people. We will not relent on this to ensure that every household benefits from democratic dividends.”

Earlier in his remarks, the representative of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola and the Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Olufemi Akande, applauded Jayeola for taking the welfare of his people as priority.

Akande, who said the gesture would complement the social investment programmes of Governor Oyetola, implored the people of the constituency to renew their support for the present administration.

He said the administration of Governor Oyetola would continue to champion the welfare of the people.

Speaker, Osun House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye, commended the empowerment initiative of the lawmaker, describing it as worthy of emulation.

He described Jayeola as a worthy representative who is committed to human and capital development.

He thanked the people of Ila for their continued support for APC and the administration of Governor Oyetola, urging them not to relent.

In his remarks, the Osun APC Chairman, Prince Gboyega Famodun, commended the philanthropic gesture of the lawmaker, adding that the initiative would help to complement the social investment programmes of the Governor Oyetola-led administration in the State.

He called on the people of the constituency to continue to support APC,  saying it remains the only political party that can take the nation to the  promised land.

Famodun used the occasion to appeal to the party loyalists to remain united and to join hands together to further enhance the fortunes of the party in the constituency in particular and in the State in general.

He assured members of  continued support, saying their welfare remained the party’s priority.

Some of the beneficiaries who expressed their feelings appreciated the lawmaker for counting them worthy.

Those in attendance were the Orangun of Ila, Oba Abdul-Wahab Oyedotun represented by Alasan, Chief Muraina Adeniyi; Chairman, Osun All Progressives Congress (APC), Prince Gboyega Famodun; and APC leaders,  among others.
