BREAKING: NNPC Discovers Oil In Gongola Basin

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company says its crew working at Kolmani River-II in Gongola Basin have encountered hydrocarbon outflow to the well head while performing well test operations.

It said the discovery was made at about 21:20 hours on Thursday, October 10, 2019.

“The gas component is currently being flared to avoid pressure build-up around the drilling rig,” it added, noting that further assessment of the hydrocarbon type and volume is being carried out.

Experts note that hydrocarbons are the most broadly used organic compounds known, and are quite literally the driving force of western civilization.

The greatest amounts of hydrocarbons are used as fuel for combustion, particularly in heating and motor fuel applications.

The primary components of natural gas are methane and ethane.

Hydrocarbons have a wide variety of important uses, but their most important use is as fuels. The main source of hydrocarbons is fossil fuels—coal, petroleum, and natural gas.

Hydrocarbon exploration (or oil and gas exploration) is the search by petroleum geologists and geophysicists for deposits of hydrocarbons, particularly petroleum and natural gas, in the earth, using petroleum geology.
