Use ‘Selective Retention Approach’ To Comprehend Lectures On Entrepreneurship, Aragbiji Educates Trainees

The Aragbiji of Iragbiji, Oba Abdur-Rasheed Ayotunde Olabomi has educated entrepreneurship trainees on adoption of selectivity learning approach in their acquisition of skills.

The monarch recommended this approach during a programme themed “Skill Fair: Entrepreneurship & Skill Acquisition”, organized by the National Library of Nigeria, NLN, held on Sunday at Osogbo branch.

Represented by Mr. Jimoh Olatunji Olorede, a research scholar at department of Mass Communication, University of Benin, Oba Abdur-Rasheed said selectivity approach involved five learning processes namely; selective exposure, selective attention, selective perception, selective retention and selective reactions.

He implored the trainees to make use of the learning processes, especially selective retention, for proper comprehension of the lectures delivered on entrepreneurship.

Delivering his lecture, the guest speaker, a renowned broadcast journalism veteran, Mr. Shittu Alamu, said there were four major skills every language must have for proper understanding of any communication experience.

These, according to him, were listening, reading, writing and speaking skills.

“Skills must be involved in the process of using language. Different methods may be used to achieve any of the four.

“Each skills increases as the learners rose and developed in the ability to attain personal growth or personal experiences in life”, the veteran said.

Another guest speaker, Chief Tunde Ilugbo, schooled participants on ‘Entrepreneurship as a Panacea for Poverty Eradication and National Development’.

He said: “The skill acquisition would reduce poverty in our country, eliminate banditry, kidnapping, and other menaces that are currently plaguing Nigeria”.

In her opening remarks, the Osun Head of Branch, HOB of the National Library of Nigeria, Dr. Adejumoke Ajibola urged the beneficiaries of the free training, some of whom came for the programme from Ibadan, to make beneficial and practical application of the skills acquired to better their lots and desist from scamping for  non-existing white cola jobs.
