Finally! Edunabon Palace Arsonists Face The Court





An Osogbo based Magistrate Court has on Monday arraigned and remanded the arsonists of Edunabon Palace in Ife North Local Government, Osun State.


The arsonists which include a 75-year-old Chief, Oyedokun and two others identified as Odebode Elijah and Gbenga Olasunbo were arraigned in court  yesterday bothering their involvement in the burning down of an ancient town, Edunabon’ palace on December 19, 2018.

While appearing in court on Monday, Amiloaded had it that, Chief Oyedokun, Odebode Elijah and Gbenga Olasunbo pleaded not guilty to all the 16 counts against them.

Police Prosecutor, Inspector Joshua Oladoye, told the court that the accused persons and others at large, on December 19, 2018, at Edunabon, conspired among themselves to commit felony and arson, assault occasioning harm, stealing, indecent assault and attempted murder.

Insp. Oladoye stressed that the accused persons set the palace ablaze, with the aim of killing the town’s monarch, Oba Oladepo, who was in the palace at the time of the incident.

Oladoye also said the accused persons unlawfully stripped naked Temitope Adeola, Oluwatoyin Oladepo, Ademola Oladepo, Aanuoluwapo Onifade, Tunde Olawoye, Taiwo Ogunsanya, and Temitope Adeola, took their nude pictures and videos, and shared the materials on the social media.

Defence Counsel, Bose Dada, pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy, to release the accused persons on bail, with a promise to ensure that they all attend their trial.

However, Magistrate Olayemi R.A refused the application and ordered the remand of the accused person in prison custody till Monday, January 28, 2019, for further hearing.
