PROFILE OF OMOOBA BARRISTER DOTUN BABAYEMI
Omooba Dotun Babayemi was born in Gbongan in 1966 to the family of late Oba(Dr) Solomon and Ajoke Babayemi.
His late father, Dr. Solomon Babayemi, Akinrinola 1, was the immediate past Olufi of Gbongan in Ayedaade Local Government, State of Osun.
The late Oba Dr Solomon Babayemi played a pivotal role in the creation of what is known today as Osun State.
Omooba Dotun Babayemi became a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 1990. He practised as Barrister in Nigeria prior to relocating to the United Kingdom where he worked for 7 years with London Underground Limited leaving as a senior project manager. He relocated to the United States and had a 10 year career with AXA Financial Services PLC. (a FORTUNE 100 company with USD20 Trillion under management) leaving as Vice President & Managing Director.
He returned to Nigeria in 2007 with his family and joined Celtel Nigeria Ltd as Director of strategy and thereafter as Group General Manager for Northern Nigeria. He left the organisation in 2009 to set up his group of companies with interests in security solutions, telecommunications and mining.
As at today, Omooba Dotun Babayemi is the chief executive of Fort Knox Group with twenty two thousand staff across the country.
Omooba Babayemi at a time was a card carrying member of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and its predecessor organisations for more than a decade and contributed his quota to the development of the party both at the local and national level.
Omooba Babayemi voluntarily designed and implemented intelligence capability for security decision making in the State of Osun in 2013/2014. He was also a key driver in the design, development and implementation of electronic election monitoring platform for the 2014 Governorship election in Osun State. He was a lead in the implementation of the election monitoring platform for the 2015 Nigeria presidential, national assembly and Lagos gubernatorial elections for the All Progressives Congress.
He participated in all the political activities that took place in all the nooks and crannies of Osun leading to the re election of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola in August 2014, sponsoring members of his senatorial district to the rallies and provided financial assistance at the ward, local government, federal constituency and senatorial levels. He fully managed the election control and command centre that led to re-election of the then party’s candidate.
Omooba Babayemi has distinguished himself as a selfless leader and one with a heart for the less privileged with various empowerment programmes aimed at making his people live a better life. Brilliant students whose parents are not financially buoyant or indigent have benefited from his Educational Scholarship Foundation programme,as at today over 400 students have graduated under his scholarship scheme from various higher institution of learning in the country over the last 8 years.
Besides omo oba Dotun Babayemi organises free summer school coaching for students of secondary schools across the ten local governments that make up Osun west district.
He has driven the expansion of businesses belonging to Osun indigenes leveraging resources available to him locally and internationally.
His foundation, Favour, Kindness and Grace (FKG) foundation has over the last six years conducted an annual health fair tagged #AlafiaDotun with free tests, diagnosis, free medication and follow-up surgeries across his senatorial district.
The 2017 edition of the health fair saw 42,000 people seen free by senior consultants from various hospitals across 15 locations in the 10 local governments areas that make up Osun West Senatorial District.
There were 121 post fair surgeries and 203 post fair glaucoma and cataract surgeries at the Eye Foundation Clinic in Ijebu Mushin, Ogun State. Over the last six years, the foundation has provided over 18,000 pairs of medicated prescription glasses to the people of Osun West Senatorial district with eyes problem (sight disorder). He has sponsored multiple surgeries to deal with life threatening medical issues across the state to indigent citizens.
The 2018 edition of the free health fair held as expected in fifteen centres with over 50,000 people benefitting.
In order to bring government closer to his people by representing them at the federal level and to the overwhelming approval of all in the Federal Constituency and Osun West Senatorial District, Omooba contested and won the APC primaries to represent the Irewole/Ayedaade/Isokan Federal Constituency in 2014. The then party imposed another candidate in the name of gender sensitivity.
Again, in May 2017, Omooba Babayemi obtained the APC party nomination to represent Osun West Senatorial District at the national assembly after the passing of his personal friend and then senator, Late Alhaji Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke, but the party imposed another candidate.
Despite this and based on his unwavering commitment to party supremacy, Omooba Babayemi rallied round and supported the chosen candidate by mobilising and attending rallies leading to that election and also made elections campaign materials available to the chosen candidate.
Based on his avowed personal ideology for justice and equity for all, he left the APC and progressed to the Action Democratic Party (ADP) with thousands of supporters across the ten (10) Local Government Areas including Party Officers. He is now contesting for the Osun West senatorial district seat in the upcoming 2019 general elections.
Omooba Babayemi is a staunch proponent of the 2018 West for Governor Agenda and stood by the governorship candidate of the ADP in the last gubernatorial election in the State of Osun, AIhaji Moshood Adeoti and campaigned rigorously for him, ensuring that the people through the party had a voice in determining their Governor.
He keeps working tirelessly to enlarge the coast of the party in Osun and all over Nigeria for its candidates to be victorious in future elections in the country.
His love and belief that unity among the youths is a pillar of national development made him to organise annual football competitions among the youths in Osun west district.
He distributes gifts and food items to Muslims during ramadan and Ileya periods.
Also, he sponsors programme on radio and tv stations during ramadan and distributes gifts and food items to Christians too, during yuletide festivities.
Omooba is a peace-loving philanthropist, God-fearing politician of principle and equity cum security expert and corporate strategist.
