The Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo, capital of Osun state on Thursday sentenced a 30-year-old man, Ahmad Abdullahi Mohammed to eight years imprisonment for vandalising transformer.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Osun Command had dragged the vandal before the court on two count bothering on conspiracy and vandalisation.
According To the Civil defence prosecution, the accused person had on the 23rd July, 2015 at Eko-Ende water works, Ikirun, conspired with a 32-year-old Afeez Matanmi presently at large to vandalize an electric transformer at Eko-Ende water works, Ikirun.
Mohammed was also accused of committing felony by tampering with IBEDC cable serving transformer used for converting electricity at Eko-Ende water unlawfully.
NSCDC had argued that Mohammed committed an offence contrary to Section 3(6) of the miscellaneous offence Act Cap M17 Law of the Federation of Nigeria, 2014 and punishable under the same law.
But the convict had pleaded not guilty to the two count charge slammed on him.
During hearing, the prosecution furnished the court with evidences that suggested that the accused committed the alleged offence.
To this, the presiding judge, Justice M.A. Onyetenu found Mohammed guilty as charged and convicted him accordingly.
Delivering his judgement, Onyetenu sentenced Mohammed to three years imprisonment on the count of conspiracy while the convict was sentenced to five years imprisonment on the count of vandalism.
But the court ruled that both sentences are to run concurrently for five years.
