A Governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi has openly declared his readiness to govern Osun State from November 27, 2018.
He made this assertion while declaring his intention to occupy the exalted position to his kinsmen in Ayedire Local Government area of Osun State on Saturday, 26th May 2018. Addressing the gathering that brought together party leaders, stakeholders and members of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ogunbiyi asserted that he was in the contest because of his resolve to take the State out of the sorry state that the Aregbesola administration has put her.
According to him, “Osun today is a failed State in many ramifications. In the BudgIT Fiscal Sustainability Index Report of 2017, Osun ranked 36 out of 36 States of the Federation. That means when measuring the ability of States to sustain their current spending, tax and other policies in the long run without threatening government solvency or defaulting on some of its liabilities or promised expenditures, Osun ranks the lowest.”
“We are already seeing manifestations of the economic misery that the present government has heaped on our already impoverished people. Salaries are slashed recklessly in the name of modulation and market people who benefit directly from the financial solvency of Civil servants are groaning as the purchasing powers of their customers have drastically gone down.”
“We cannot allow this unfortunate trend to continue. This task of rescuing our State from total obliteration however requires a leader that has deep understanding of economics and can rearrange the State’s priorities such that our books begin to look good again. This is why I have offered myself to serve and I have absolute faith in God who has promised to bring comfort to our State through me. I am ready physically, emotionally and strategically to lead Osun with quality vision that can rival any leadership vision in the world.”
He also stated that he was not in the race to present himself as a moneybag or some highhanded master, but rather he has volunteered himself to lead the State out of the troubled waters that the Aregbesola government has led her into.
While inaugurating his team of field officers at the gathering, he said “we have an enormous task ahead of us that requires the full commitment of all of us. I am sure everything is possible with God, but He will only crown our sincere efforts contributed towards liberating our State from the shackles of reckless leadership. I am in the race to win and I am confident that by November 27 2018, we will be singing praises to God for delivering victory unto us.”
He informed everyone present at the gathering that since charity begins at home, he has chosen to commence all activities leading to the realization of his ambition from home. Prayers were said by representatives of the Muslim and Christian communities of Ayedire Local Government and consultation visits are expected to commence in earnest.
