PDP Cautions Aregbesola On Political Thuggery, Open Use Of Firearms, During Campaigns

Osun State Peoples Democratic Party has lampooned the State governor, Rauf Aregbesola for constituting threats to peace of suffering masses of the State, instead of living up to his oath of office as custodian of authority, protecting lives and properties in the State.

The party decried the present level of banditry openly displayed by campaign train of Apc candidate in the forthcoming senatorial bye election in Osun West Senatorial District of the State, led by the State governor, where imported thugs were made to terrorize the good people of our ancient towns and villages with sporadic gun shots, coupled with open display of sophisticated weapons.

State Social Media Director of Osun PDP,  Mr Oladele Bamiji HOB, in a statement Thursday in Osogbo, condemned what he called political terrorism being employed by the State governor and serving commissioner for Executive Cabinet in the State, who doubles as Apc candidate in the july 8 Senatorial election, hon Mudasiru Hussain.

Mr Oladele wondered why a state governor would descend to the abyss of asking for votes by acts of terrorism, intimidation and uncensored coercion from the same people he claimed to have led prudently in his almost seven years as the State helmsman. Oladele stated that, Mr governor’s style of campaign in this electioneering has been noting but ignoble.

According to him,  the State governor has demonstrated an unfettered show of defeatist force in the last 48 hours in the State, harassing motorcyclists in Iwo on Wednesday, who refused to join his party’s campaign train as forcefully demanded, beating some of the cyclists to stupor,  while many others sustained gun shot wounds from the Apc rampaging thugs.

Again on Thursday, a number of residents of Ede, one of the major towns in Osun West  Senatorial District, were said to have sustained varying degree of injuries from machete cuts, horsewhip and gunshots, while trying to rebuff intimidating tactics of the governor and his candidate in the town. Mr Oladele noted that, violence in Ede on Thursday was premeditated by the State government led by governor Aregbesola, having issued threats in the last couple of days by proxies, to terrorize the good people of Ede especially and Osun West in particular, by whatever means possible.

The statement therefore called on acting President Yemi Osinbajo and relevant security agencies in the country, to intervene in this auto pilot desperation being expressly displayed by Mr Aregbesola and prevail on him to halt undue bloodshed in Osun State, having already inflicted untold passive deaths on the State, through non payment of gratuities, pensions and even salaries in the State.

Osun State people have endured enough calamities under Apc government of gov Rauf Aregbesola and Mr governor’s and his candidate’s actions so far are tantamount to unbridled wickedness, subjecting the same people to further gnashing of teeth, Just because residents of Osun West District of the State have resolved to elect a Senator, other than Mr Rauf’s preferred candidate, Mr Oladele retorted.
