Senator Jubril Martins-Kuye who is a former Minister of State for Finance and Minister of Commerce and Industry has revealed why she allowed his wife to practice her faith.
He disclosed this while answering to an interview with Punch on how she met his wife.
According to him, “She is actually my second wife. My first marriage ended sadly when my first wife died; may God repose her soul. She was a devout Muslim from Abeokuta. She gave me beautiful children. When she passed on, I met Iyabo, my second wife. She has been wonderful, taking good care of me. To jell well with me, she offered to become a Muslim. Then I said, ‘You, a Christian cannot stand the rigours of five daily prayers. Where will you begin from? Look, don’t worry. Stay as a Christian, let me stay as a Muslim; we worship the same God.’ And she agreed.
” In any case, it has always been in my family back in Ijebu. In Yoruba land, that’s not new; it is fairly common. In the case of my wife, I asked her to continue as a Christian because she can serve God better as a Christian, instead of struggling to become a Muslim at an advanced age.”
