A former member of the House of Representatives and Chieftain of the All Progressive Congress in Osun state, Hon. Rotimi Makinde has thrown his weight behind the aspiration of a member of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Tunde Olatunji to be the speaker.
In a chat with Amiloaded over the telephone, Makinde declared that Olatunji is most eminently qualified to lead the Assembly saying he has paid his dues in the politics of the state and the APC.
It would be recalled that Hon Tunde Olatunji and Hon Rotimi Makinde both served as Chairman and secretary respectively for Oyetola while contesting for governor in Ife Federal Constituency and it is on record that they performed creditably to deliver the zone and won PDP even before the coalition.
Makinde said, “There are clear parallels and I fail to see what significant difference exists between someone truly born in Ife Kingdom which consists of Ife- North, South and Central and it’s neighbourhood, Modakeke Akoraye of area office.”
“Hon Tunde Olatunji is a rare breed politician who has paid his due and is eminently qualified to receive the collective blessings of Osun People and indeed the good people of Ife sons and daughters to vie for the exalted position of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly. Doing that will certainly show how we love other citizens of our land.
“It is glaring fact that the battle is within the All Progressives Congress (APC) that has majority of members as recorded in the last election and so, it’s going to be more of a family affair.
“I am conscious of the fact that the party decision is going to be the final verdict on this matter. I am simply appealing to our leaders. But for whatever the contest for the House leadership is worth, thinking in the direction of Ife Federal Constituency axis will be more meaningful to make our people in this zone happier and have a great sense of belonging. Presently, we are being bashed and getting discouraged in the party, the former House of Representatives member said.
Rotimi Makinde wished Honourable Tunde Olatunji the best of luck in his aspiration and advised him to reach out to his other colleagues, notable leaders across the state to make his aspiration come true.
The leaders Olatunji should contact, according to Makinde, include Sen Iyiola Omisore, Sooko Adewoyin, Sen Omoworare, Alh Fatai Kolawole, Eskay, Biyi Odunlade among others.
He asked Olatunji to always remember that party’s decision is supreme, adding that his emergence as Speaker would not only make the state proud but develop it further.
