The Osun State Police Command has launched manhunt following the threat letter written to some communities in the state by suspected Armed robbers.
AMILOADED recalls that armed robbers numbering five on Wednesday invaded the Ilupeju area, Ofatedo community in Egbedore Local Government Area, Osun State, a week after sending a threat to residents.
The bandits wrote a threat letter to the community last week demanding N20 million from the residents and also vowed to kill security men that attempt to waylay them.
It was gathered from residents that the armed bandit attacked the community around 1:30a.m. They first attacked a poultry farm after they shot the night guard several times, but he escaped.
The bandits forcefully enter another factory in the area before they entered into residential buildings and robbed residents of their valuables.
The residents confirmed that the bandits left the community around 5a.m.
One of the night guards in the area named Segun told our correspondent: “They came to our community around 1a.m. I was on duty. The bandits were looking for money. Unfortunately, they could not get anything where I am securing. They attacked me with a machete.”
Similarly, a resident, who pleaded anonymity, said: “I was tied and locked up in the toilet. After I freed myself and left the toilet, I was hearing gunshots even till around 5a.m. The robbers were five in number. Two of them carried guns. Only one of them did not wear a mask.”
However, while reacting to the threatening letter of invasion by the armed robbers, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Olawale Olokode in a statement on Friday signed by the Command Spokesperson, Yemi Opalola said the command has begun manhunt for the suspected criminals.
He reassured residents of its readiness to tackle all forms of criminal activities and threat, urging members of the public to comport themselves and jettison any fear of insecurity.
Olokode stated that the command has re-strategised and re-energised its security architecture because it was mindful of its primary constitutional responsibilities of protection of lives and properties.
He also assured the member of the public of the unrelenting efforts of the command at ensuring the residents of the state go about their lawful businesses and sleep with their eyes closed.
The Osun police boss explained that the new strategy was necessitated by a threat letter of attacks written to some communities in the state by some unscrupulous elements.
He also asked the members of the public to report any suspicious movement or activities of criminals to the police through these numbers: 08039537995 and 08123823981.
Olokode advised the citizens to be security conscious, vigilant and co-operate and collaborate with the security agents by giving useful and timely information to them.
