A non-government organisation, Potters Wheel Foundation, will on November 20, 2021, marks its one year anniversary with a free vocational training program, AMILOADED reports.
The anniversary, which would also feature a commissioning program, is expected to hold at the Indoor Sports Hall Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium Complex, Enugu in Enugu State.
The Potters Wheel Foundation is a non-profit, non-governmental, community-based humanitarian organisation that offers free vocational and entrepreneurial training to youths and women in the society as an antidote to the massive unemployment and by extension, crime and insecurity bedeviling Nigeria.
According to the Foundation, the skill acquisition covers how to make Cakes, Meat Pie and other Pie Families, Doughnut, Samosa, Spring Roll, Chin-Chin, Peanut, Scotch Egg, Bread, Cookies, Alcohol Based Hand Sanitizers, Antibacterial Hand wash, Car Wash, Liquid Soap, Body wash,Tile Wash, Toilet Wash, Insecticide, Rodenticide,Carrot Oil, Coconut Oil, Avocado Oil, Laundry tablet soap, Bleach, Detergent, Antiseptics, Disinfectants, Odour Control, Organic Soap, Organic Cream, Organic Tablet Soap, Hair Cream, Body Jelly, Perfume, Shampoo, Hair Conditioner, Hair Gel, Custard Powder, Pap Powder, Curry Powder, Soya milk, Tiger Nut Milk, Hibiscus wine, Ice Cream, Yoghurt, Non Alcoholic Wine etc
It stated, “In August 2020, we began Training Youths and Women in our Cooperate Address at No. 2B John Nwodo Close GRA Enugu.
“When the space there could no longer contain the Trainees, we approached the Enugu State Government for partnership and a platform was provided for us through the Ministry of Youths and Sports at Media Center, Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium Complex Enugu.
“Since then we have had several batches of Youths and Women trained in Enugu State and other states of the country.
“We had 509 Registered Persons in our Batch A
475 in Batch B
395 in Batch C
230 in Batch D
187 in Batch E
In Batch F which is from Enugu State Police Officers’ families ( Wives, Widows and Wards), we had 331 Registered Persons.
The ongoing Batch G has over 310 Persons.
Other training includes;
Ahani, Achi Training in Oji River Local Government
with over 100 Youths and Women in attendance.
“In Ado and Ayedun Ekiti all in Ekiti State, we had over 150 in attendance.
“At Gidan Mangaro Municipal Council FCT Abuja, we had over 230 Youths, Women and Men in attendance.
“In the last one year,we have given Free Vocational and Entrepreneurial Training to over 3000 Youths and Women in different locations in our Country Nigeria.
“It is important also to note that during the activities to mark the 2020 National Youth Day, His Excellency, RT Hon Dr Lawrence Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, The Executive Governor of Enugu State provided Start up materials for 240 of our Trainees and many of them are doing very well with that support today.
THE BENEFIT OF THE FREE VOCATIONAL TRAINING
“Though in a gradual process, these efforts has helped greatly in the reduction of unemployment and by proxy, Crime and Insecurity. It has also helped to increase the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the areas affected. For us at The Potters Wheel Foundation, we believe skill acquisition is a viable option in tackling Unemployment.
“It is also impertinent to note that majority of those who have gotten this Free Vocational Training from us have not started doing anything, not because they are not interested, but because they are yet to lay hands on the raw materials to take off.
“However as The Potters Wheel Foundation marks Her first Anniversary and Commissioning, we have rolled out some chains of activities which includes:
•••Trade Fair and Exhibition of our made in in Nigeria Confectioneries, Natural Beverages, Hygienic, Allied and Skin Care products, from over 500 of of Trainees.
•••Humanitarian Service Award to Individuals and Organisations that has helped us to run this vision in the last one year.
•••Award of Excellence presentation to some individuals in public service (Military and Para-military) that has a proof of distancing themselves from the vices as an encouragement to honesty and integrity.
•••Entrepreneurial Talk Show and Speech presentation by seasoned Speakers
Etc.
“This anniversary and commissioning program is slated for 20th of November 2021 at The Indoor Sports Hall Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium Complex Enugu.
“We are using this opportunity to invite the General Public, Companies, Clubs, Organisations (Local and International) and Government Agencies to come and patronize as well as support our Youths and Women who have decided to join those who make things happen rather than watch things happen.
“We also solicit for support in providing Start up materials for the Trainees that have not started practicing what they where taught because of financial limitations.
“Finally, The Potters Wheel Foundation has an open door for partnership with good spirited Nigerians and Organisations to help us get millions of our Youths and Women into productive skill acquisition so as to enable us reduce Unemployment, Poverty, Crime and Insecurity.
