Police Drag Osun Driver To Court Over Alleged Manslaughter

The Osun State Police Command on Wednesday dragged a 30-year-old driver, Patrick Umeh before an Osun State Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo over alleged manslaughter.

According to the Charge sheet, Patrick Umeh (30) being the driver of Toyota Hence bus with the registration number FKJ 797 XX, droved same in the high way in a manner that was dangerous to the public and cause the death of Aderoki Sefiu.

Patrick Umeh was also accused for driving recklessly and having no regards to the traffic rules.

The Police Prosecutor, ASP Fagboyinbo Abiodun told the court that the defendant committed the offences on 3rd, August, 2020 at about 3:30pm at Agunbelewo area, Osogbo .

He argued that the offences contrary to and punishable under section 4 of the Federal High way act Cap 34 Vol II. laws of Osun State 2003.

When the four count charges were read to the defendant, he pleaded not guilty to the offences.

The defence counsel, Odeh Emmanuel thereby applied for his bail on a liberal term.

He noted that the relative of the deceased is no longer interested in the case.

While ruling, the Chief magistrate, Mr Isola Omisade ordered the defendant to be should be remanded at Dada Estate police station pending the ruling on the application for bail.

He, however, adjourned the case till 6 August, 2020 for ruling on bail.
