Oyetola Wades Into Osogbo South LCDA Crisis, Says Status Quo Be Maintained Till He Returns

Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State has waded into the political crisis rocking the Osogbo South Local Council Development Area and asked both parties to cease fire and allow peace to reign.

Councillors of the council had impeached their chairman, Hakeem Olaoye over alleged gross misconduct. The State Assembly had reversed that removal and asked Olaoye to continue in his capacity as chairman.

Governor Oyetola, who is currently out of the state has, through a statement by the state chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prince Gboyega Famodun, in Osogbo, on Friday cautioned the Chairman and councillors to allow status quo till he returns to the state.

The Governor further warned the political warlords to maintain absolute peace and stop any act capable of causing political tension in the affected area.

It was also contained in the executive intervention that all the warring political combatants should do everything within their power not to engage in any activity that could make the situation to fester.

It was also part of the governor’s directive that all the political apologists of the disagreeing parties should also desist from any act that is capable of rocking the existing peace and tranquillity in the local government in the interest of the constituents.

Famodun also hinted that the governor who was not at ease with the development has also ordered that no member of the feuding parties or their agents or their supporters must issue any press statement or grant an interview in any media of mass communication concerning the issue for now.

According to Famodun:  “The kernel of the directive of Mr Governor is that the warring parties should hold their peace in order to douse the tension till his arrival.

“Any contrary act against the directive of Governor Oyetola in this regard is qualified for anti-party activity which the party leadership would visit with the required party’s constitutional sanction”, he warned.

The state party chairman stated that it is his belief that any member or leader of the party who believes in its supremacy will not do anything to negatively impact the party.
