Outrage Over Salary Deduction Of Civil Servants

There has been an outrage over the failure of the Kano State Government to stop deduction of salary of civil servants.

As a result, the Nigeria Labour Congress in Kano State has given a seven-day ultimatum to the state government to refund and stop what it described as “illegal deduction” from civil servant salaries or face industrial action.

The union insisted that failure of the government to stop the deduction before the end of its ultimatum, which started on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, workers would embark on three-day warning strike from midnight of Wednesday 7, April.

The NLC Chairman, Kabiru Minjibir, gave the ultimatum while addressing newsmen on Wednesday night after an emergency meeting of the State Executive Council in Kano.

Minjibir described the action of the government as a clear violation of the agreement on the new minimum wage law of 2019.

Recall that the organised labour in the state had earlier given the state government 11 conditions to meet before deducting workers salary.

The demands included seeing the government book of accounts, the total workforce of public servants (both state and local government), actual total wage bills for state workers (both state and local government), the number of political office holders (both state and local governments) and total wage bill for political office holders( state and local government).
