Osun State 4th Civilian Governor, Rauf Aregbesola Bags Honourary Degree Award

The Forth Civilian Executive Governor of Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has been conferred a Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science (Honorary Causal) award in recognition of his numerous achievements in education sector when he was in office.

Former Governor Aregbesola was conferred the award on Monday during the 8th convocation ceremony of Fountain University, Oshogbo.

In his acceptance speech, Aregbesola gave credit to the management of the institution on the award and honour given to him. He said the University has proved her stance to be the first and best university to  ensure quality control among students of tertiary institution through elevation of Islamic teachings and academics activities. 

“I salute the indefatigable and can do attitude of the management of this institution in her efforts in inculcating decency and good character through the combination of Islamic religion teachings and academics activities to improve the lives of students of the institution”. Aregbesola said.

Addressing the graduands, Aregbesola  urged the convocating students to be of good character, and ready to represent their Alma Mata well, when they get to the labour market.

According to him, The current increase in  economic hardship facing the country  is caused by the nonchalant attitude of Nigeria leaders and too much of dependence on white collar jobs among Nigerian students.

Aregbesola said “The current increase of unemployment and increase in poverty index rate in Nigeria is caused by lack of self discipline among political office holders and over reliance of Nigerian graduates on government”.

In his congratulatory message, Osun State Governor, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola congratulated and charged the graduands to work towards becoming their own boss, and never settle for less in all their life endeavours.

Describing the honorary degree award conferred on former governor Aregbesola, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Amidu Olalekan said the award is a well deserved one, adding that the erstwhile governor is a true reflection of democracy, who has demonstrated good governance when he was in office.

Attesting to various development the institution has enjoyed since the last 10 years of her establishment, Amidu disclosed that the institution  has continually enjoyed diversification in the area of science and research, agricultural improvement, constant awareness and orientation  on social cultural activities among others.

” The diversity and rapid growth in our university attracted the Nigeria University Commission NUC to approve 38 new programmes which will enable intending Secondary school leavers to enroll our university”.

In his address, the institution’s Chairman Board of Trustees, Alhaji Abdulwaheed Adeola appreciated the commitment of the University Governing Council led by Vice-Admiral Jubrilla Ayinla (Rtd) GCON for their commitment in steering the affairs of the university in the right direction in the last one year.

At the end of the ceremony, a total number of 319 students were convocated, out of which 22 came out in First Class Upper Division, 119 Second Class Upper, 165, Second Class Lower, While 13 came out in Third Class Division.
