One of the gubernatorial aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun state, Dotun Babayemi has emerged as the factional candidate of the party after a governorship election held at WOCDIF in Osogbo, the state capital, AMILOADED reports.
Babayemi was declared winner after he polled 1,781 votes.
Speaking on the development, Babayemi, described his emergence as the party’s flag bearer in the forthcoming polls as a challenge to turn around the state for the betterment of its people.
Having been adopted by stakeholders of the party on Monday as the preferred aspirant, Babayemi was formally elected as the PDP governorship candidate at the party’s primary held on Tuesday at WOCDIF, Osogbo.
According to the Gbongan-born politician, his emergence and eventual election in July as the governor of the state would herald a new glorious dawn for the state and its people.
“I see my emergence today as a great challenge,a clarion call to a divine assignment to bring to bear, the vision of our founding fathers. This, I promise, shall be pursued with every fiber of our being.This is because Osun which is our common heritage, has suffered enough degradation in the hands of interlopers” he asserted
To achieve this,the gubernatorial candidate maintained that all hands must be on deck, adding, “I sincerely covet the support of all; for I can not do it alone”
He promised that grudges engendered by various factors within the party would be resolved, assuring, “We shall embark on genuine reconciliation by ensuring that every member of the party is carried along”
While thanking party leaders, stakeholders and members across the state for massively supporting his candidacy, Babayemi commended other aspirants who withdrew to support his emergence.
“I promise you that this is a race we shall run together.You are men of proven mettle and integrity whose wealth of experience would always be needed for an all-round development of our dear state”
While calling on members of the party across the state to always be law-abiding by maintaining peace,he charged them to embark on house-to-house campaign so as to help sell PDP to the people of the state with a view to ingraining it in their minds.
“July is close by. Let’s make maximum use of the opportunity we have now and victory shall be ours. Our people have suffered enough; their liberation time has come” he assured.
Some leaders of the party, who were on ground at the WOCDIF Centre includes, former Osun State Governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, former Deputy Governor, Erelu Olusola Obada, Chiefs Shuaib Oyedokun, Olu Alabi, Tajudeen Oladipo, among others.
Alhaji Fatai Akinbade,Mr Dele Adeleke and a representative of Mr Sanya Omirin,Mr Jide Bakare and the party acting chairman, Barrister Wale Ojo were also part of the congress.
