The National Youth Council Of Nigeria (NYCN), Osun Sate chapter has commenced activities for the 2021 International Youth Day, AMILOADED reports.
The NYCN Chairman, Comrade Abdul Azeez Ismail Abiodun, made the known while speaking at a press conference in Osogbo, the Osun State capital on Saturday.
Com. Abiodun stated that the 2021 International Youth Day is themed, ‘TRANSFORMING FOOD SECURITY: YOUTH INNOVATION FOR HUMAN AND PLANETARY HEALTH.’
The NYCN Chairman, who added that the 2021 celebration would be a week-long event, said the International Youth Day would commence from Saturday, August 2, 2021 through Friday August 13, 2021.
He said, “All glory to the Almighty God that spares our dear lives to witness this year celebration despite the terror and horrors of Covid-19. Banditry. Insurgency, Robbery, Hunger, Loss of jobs. Endsars Protest in the past year. I want to use these medium to commensurate with those families that lose their loved ones in the course of the said enemies of a sane environment.
“Let me at this point reiterate the theme for this year celebration, Transforming food security: youth innovation for human planetary health. This planet Earth have been witnessing continuous increase in population in this millennium than the previous ones, this also give rise in the number of mouth to be fed on a daily basis.
“With this in mind it is imperative to join hands with the government to ensure food security for its citizens. Greenhouse, GMOs and GMFs have come in the time past into being, but their effect on the masses seems so low and that they’re unable to solve the problem of persistent increase in size. Let me also remind you all of the number 2 goal of the SDGs goals of United Nation which says ZERO HUNGER. Research has shown that much evil are perpetrated by a hungry soul.
“Therefore I am enjoining all of you minds here present and all in Diaspora to look into this avenue of opportunity by transforming food security through innovations, so that we can reduce hunger nearest minimal.
“The week-long program comprises of Inter-zonal football competition (i.e. NYCN zonal branches within the State), Church Sunday Service on the 8th August, visitation to correctional center in Ilesa on Monday 9th August, Seminar on Tuesday 10th August which will be in partnership with Nigeria Export Promotion Council Osun Smart office, Parade among all Voluntary Youth Organisations in the State alongside Inter-zonal football completion finale on Wednesday. We shall however have an engagement with Mr. Governor as planned by the State Ministry of Youth and Sports before moving to Jumah Mosque thanksgiving on Friday, after which Dinner follows on the 13th August, 2021.”
Con. Abiodun further commended the administration of Governor Gboyega Oyetola over the successful launching of Osun Youth Policy Document, saying, “On this note I want to on behalf of the young ones appreciate the State government through our dogged youthful and resourceful Commissioner Hon. Olayemi Azeez Lawal to the ever listening governor; Alh Isiaka Gboyega Oyetola and other cabinet members for going out of their way in sourcing for interventions for the one time marginalized group in the society, which has now come into the limelight of the State affairs. This intervention has helped in fostering backups for nothing less than 4500 businesses within the state.
“I also want to appreciate Hon. Yemi Lawal (Hon. Commissioner Ministry of Youth and Sports), Hon. Aremo Adegboyega Adelabu (S.A Ministry of Youth and Sports) and particularly the Governor for the successful completion and Launching of Osun Youth Policy Document.
“Let me humbly chance this rear opportunity to request for the signing into law of Osun Youth Development Commission Bill which is aimed to further address the need of Youth Development through international funding.
“Also in a bid to ensure security of lives and properties within and around the State, may I further appreciate Mr. Governor for joining his counterparts in the South Western Nigeria to create Western Nigeria security network,” the NYCN Chairman said.
